Litchfield Beach, South Carolina

Litchfield Beach, also known simply as Litchfield (and occasionally as South Litchfield to distinguish it from the others below), is an unincorporated community in Georgetown County, South Carolina. It lies in the Waccamaw Neck section, 3 miles north of Pawleys Island, on the South Carolina Grand Strand.

The community takes its name from Litchfield Plantation, a rice plantation founded early in the 18th century. Modern development of the community began in the 1960s.[1]

Litchfield-by-the-Sea is a gated community to the north of Litchfield Beach above, comprising both vacation-rental and owner-occupied homes.[2]

North Litchfield Beach is yet another unincorporated community on the Atlantic Ocean lying just north of the above two.

These three and their neighbors to the west as far as the Waccamaw River are sometimes referred to as the Litchfield Beach Community and are served by the Pawleys Island post office (ZIP code 29585).
