Biography

Lita Gaithers (born July 30)[1] is an African-American singer-songwriter, actress, and Tony Award-nominated co-author of the Broadway musical It Ain't Nothin' But the Blues,[2] which was nominated for 4 Tony Awards including Best Musical in 1999.[3] Gaithers, who received a nomination for the Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical, is one of a handful of women who have been nominated in this category. As a veteran performer of the theatre, her lead and featured stage performances include being an original cast member of Blues,[4] The Tin Pan Alley Rag, Ain’t Misbehavin' , Nunsense, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, A…My Name is Alice, Purlie, and For Colored Girls Who Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf.
