List of tallest buildings in Ottawa–Gatineau
- See also: List of buildings in Ottawa
This is a list of the tallest buildings in Ottawa–Gatineau over 90 m (295 ft) tall (Canada's National Capital Region). Until 1965, buildings in downtown Ottawa were limited to 45.5 metres (149 ft) so that the Peace Tower, part of the parliament buildings, could dominate the skyline.[1] The National Capital Region has a complicated system of protected views that is governed by the National Capital Commission and adhered to by the City of Ottawa.[2] Protected views limit the height of buildings in certain areas of the downtown core of Ottawa to ensure views of Parliament from several angles.
The tallest building in the national capital region is the 30-storey Terrasses de la Chaudière, which is located on the Quebec side of the river and stands at 124 m.
As of February 2011, the region contains 51 skyscrapers over 75 m (246 ft) and 414 high-rise buildings that exceed 35 m (115 ft) in height.[3][4]
The tallest development that is under construction in Ottawa–Gatineau is the 143 m (469 ft) Claridge Icon development by Claridge Homes standing at 45 Stories. The 'Icon' will be the tallest building constructed in Ottawa-Gatineau since 1978 and the tallest in Ottawa proper since 1971.
