The original lineup of Wolfmother, pictured, comprised Andrew Stockdale, Chris Ross, and Myles Heskett. The band is currently composed of Stockdale, Ian Peres, and Vin Steele.

Wolfmother is an Australian hard rock band originally formed in 2000 by vocalist and guitarist Andrew Stockdale, bassist and keyboardist Chris Ross, and drummer Myles Heskett.[1] The band signed with Modular Recordings and released the four-track extended play Wolfmother in 2004.[2][3] The band released their debut album, also self-titled, in Australia in 2005;[2] it featured 12 new recordings, including the four songs from the 2004 EP.[4] In 2006 the band released a second EP, Dimensions, which featured the new song "Love Train",[5] subsequently released as the B-side to "White Unicorn"[6] and included on the 2006 international edition of Wolfmother.[1][2] In May 2007 the band contributed a new song, "Pleased to Meet You", to the Spider-Man 3 soundtrack.[7]

Original members Ross and Heskett left the band in August 2008,[8][9] after which a hiatus followed and new members Aidan Nemeth (guitar), Ian Peres (bass and keyboards) and Dave Atkins (drums) joined in 2009.[10] The second lineup of the band first released "Back Round" as a free digital download in March,[11][12][13] and later as a digital single in June.[14][15] Wolfmother's second studio album, Cosmic Egg, was released in October 2009, containing 12 songs (16 on deluxe editions).[16][17] During a break in the band's New Moon Rising World Tour in April 2010, Atkins left the band and was replaced by Will Rockwell-Scott, known for his work with The Mooney Suzuki.[18] The band also contributed a new song, "Fell Down a Hole", to the soundtrack album Almost Alice in March 2010,[19] and later a cover version of "Cheap Sunglasses" for ZZ Top: A Tribute from Friends in October 2011.[20]

In February 2012, it was announced that Nemeth and Rockwell-Scott had left the band, with Vin Steele and Hamish Rosser replacing them and Elliott Hammond also joining the group.[21] Little over a year later though, the band's next album was released as Keep Moving, a Stockdale solo album, with the band said to be on hiatus.[22][23] In July, however, it was announced that Wolfmother had returned with Stockdale, Peres, and Steele (on drums),[24] and the following March the band's third official album New Crown was released through website Bandcamp, containing 11 tracks.[25]

Songs

Frontman Andrew Stockdale is the only constant member of Wolfmother, and has written the majority of the band's material.
Chris Ross was the original bassist and keyboardist in Wolfmother, performing with the band between 2000 and 2008.
Original drummer Myles Heskett, along with Ross, was credited with co-writing the band's first album Wolfmother.
Following the departure of Ross and Heskett, Aidan Nemeth was one of the new members brought in for 2009's Cosmic Egg.
One of the bonus tracks released on Cosmic Egg was a cover of Neil Young's "Don't Let It Bring You Down".
Wolfmother also recorded a cover of "If 6 Was 9", written by Jimi Hendrix, for the Cosmic Egg bonus tracks.
