The list of shipwrecks in 1842 includes some ships sunk, wrecked or otherwise lost during 1842.
January
Unknown date
- Dart ( United Kingdom): The smack was wrecked on the Greenground, in the Bristol Channel off the coast of Glamorgan with the loss of all hands.[1]
March
17 March
- Gurnet ( United Kingdom): The smack was driven ashore and capsized at Swansea, Glamorgan with the loss of both crew.[1]
May
19 May
- Industry ( United Kingdom): The smack foundered in the Bristol Channel 2 nautical miles (3.7 km) south east of The Mumbles, Glamorgan with the loss of one of her two crew. She was on a voyage from Aberthaw to Aberavon, Glamorgan.[1]
September
8 September
- John & Elizabeth ( United Kingdom): The fishing smack was driven ashore and wrecked at Walberswick, Suffolk. Her crew were rescued.[2]
October
2 October
- USS Concord ( United States Navy): The sloop-of-war was wrecked at the mouth of the Ligonha River, Portuguese East Africa with the loss of three of her crew. Survivors were rescued by Union ( Portugal).
December
5 December
- Water Witch ( South Australia): The cutter sank in the Murray River at Moorundie, South Australia.[3]
