The list of shipwrecks in 1839 includes some ships sunk, wrecked or otherwise lost during 1839.
January
6 January
- Young Susannah ( United Kingdom): The sloop was driven ashore and wrecked at Easton Bavents, Suffolk. Her crew were rescued.[1]
7 January
- Thomas Piele ( United Kingdom): The brig was wrecked off Aberavon, Glamorgan with the loss of three of her eight crew. She was on a voyage from Swansea, Glamorgan to Dublin.[2]
16 January
- Diana ( Netherlands): The full-rigged ship was destroyed by fire at Willemsoord, North Holland.
February
6 February
- Charles ( France): The brig was wrecked on the Scarweather Sands, in the Bristol Channel off the coast of Glamorgan, United Kingdom. Her crew were rescued by the Porthcawl pilot boat.[2]
11 February
- Barbara ( United Kingdom): The brig was run down and sunk in the North Sea off the coast of Suffolk by the brig Derwent ( United Kingdom). Her crew were rescued.[1]

- Grace ( United Kingdom): The sloop was driven ashore and wrecked at Rhosilli, Glamorgan. She was on a voyage from Bridgwater, Somerset to Liverpool, Lancashire.[2]
March
20 March
- Rebecca ( New South Wales): The sloop ran aground at Cape Portland, Tasmania during a gale.
April
Unknown date
- Pirate ( United States): The steamboat sank in the Missouri River near Bellevue, Nebraska.
- USS Sea Gull ( United States Navy): United States Exploring Expedition: The 2-gun schooner was lost in the Southern Ocean after 17 April.
May
19 May
- Eliza ( United Kingdom): The abandoned wreck was discovered in the North Sea by the pilot cutter John and Mary ( United Kingdom) and was beached at Easton Bavents, Suffolk.[1]
June
22 June
- Les Enfants Cheris ( France): The lugger was wrecked on the Nash Sands, in the Bristol Channel. Her six crew were rescued. She was on a voyage from Nantes, Loire-Atlantique to Bristol, Gloucestershire, United Kingdom.[2]
July
27 July
- British Queen ( United Kingdom): The brig was wrecked at Walberswick, Suffolk.[1]
December
25 December
- Pelorus ( Singapore): The brig-sloop struck a shoal off the coast of Borneo (8°08′30″N 115°30′00″E / 8.14167°N 115.50000°E) and sank. There were 22 survivors.
