- Jane Kay ( United Kingdom): The collier was wrecked on the Barnard Sand, in the North Sea off the coast of Suffolk with the loss of all hands.[1]
- Speedwell ( United Kingdom): The collier was wrecked on the Barnard Sand with the loss of all hands.[1]
18 February
- Nelson ( United Kingdom): The ship was driven ashore at Lowestoft, Suffolk. Her crew were rescued.[1]
March
- Anne ( United Kingdom): The ship was driven ashore on the coast of Suffolk. Her crew were rescued.[1]
May
25 May
- Stirling Castle ( United Kingdom): The brig was wrecked on Swaines reef, in the Pacific Ocean off Rockhampton, New South Wales.
July

- Adventure ( New South Wales): The sloop was wrecked of the coast of New South Wales.
October
25 October
- Royal Tar ( United States) The steamship caught fire in Penobscot Bay and sank with the loss of 32 of the 91 people on board.
29 October
- Tom Thumb ( United States): The paddle steamer was driven ashore and wrecked at Boon Island, Maine.[2]
November
18 November
- William ( United Kingdom): The barque was driven ashore at the Birling Gap, East Sussex. Her nineteen crew were rescued. She broke up on 24 November.[3]
December
20 December
- Petersburgh ( United Kingdom): The ship was wrecked on the Lynch Sandbank, in the Bristol Channel off the coast of Glamorgan. Her crew survived. She was on a voyage from Quebec, British North America to Llanelli, Glamorgan.[4]
