List of photovoltaic power stations

Nellis Solar Power Plant in the United States.

The following is a list of photovoltaic power stations that are larger than 50 megawatts (MW) in current net capacity. Most are individual photovoltaic power stations, but some are groups of co-located plants owned by different independent power producers and with separate transformer connections to the grid. The plants on this list as of January 2015 have a combined capacity of over 6 gigawatts (GW),[1][2] representing about one sixth of total global capacity of utility-scale plants, reported by Wiki-Solar to be some 36 GWAC at the end of 2014.[3][4]

Solar photovoltaic cells convert sunlight into electricity and many solar photovoltaic power stations have been built. The size of these stations has increased progressively over the last decade with frequent new capacity records. Until 2006, the largest was the 1980s-vintage Carrisa Plain plant at 5.6 MW. The 22 MW Pocking Solar Park was built in 2006. In 2008, the largest PV plant was the 60 MW Olmedilla Photovoltaic Park. The 97 MW Sarnia Photovoltaic Power Plant went online in 2009. Huanghe Hydropower Golmud Solar Park reached 200 MW in 2012. In August 2012, Agua Caliente Solar Project, (Arizona, 290 MW) reached 247 MW only to be passed by three larger plants in 2013. As of November 2014, Topaz Solar Farm was the largest PV solar plant in the world at 550 MW. The Desert Sunlight Solar Farm is a 550 MW solar power plant in Riverside County, California.[5][6]

Other large plants are under construction. The Solar Star project in California will reach 579 MW. Some plants over 1000 MW have been proposed around the world.
