He is following the World Runners Association WRA RULES Kevin Carr is on target to break Tom Denniss record for the record for the fastest circumnavigation of the world on foot and currently undergoing unrelenting scrutiny. Should his claim be successful he will be the fourth person to be inducted into the WRA membership. Kevin Carr invites people to scrutinize his run and even if they want to run with him or follow his progress on his WEBSITE
He is currently running through America having run over 20,000 kilometres |
Rosie Swale-Pope | First woman to run/walk the northern hemisphere. Did not follow world runners association WRA guidelines, so cannot be called a true circumnavigation. Three continents run instead of minimum four and did not cross and re cross the equator being the main reasons. Rosie Swale Popes run was an amazing solo run but sadly she elected to run totally in the northern hemisphere as an additional 4,000km run across Australia would have sufficed.

David Kunst | June 20, 1970 - October 5, 1974 | First man to walk around the world. 4 continents walked but at 14,500 miles his distance is below the minimum required for WRA membership. However, it should be noted the WRA were not in existence nor did rules exist at the time of his walk.It should be noted and with relation to above new rules where a minimum of 4 continents are required he had a gap (Burma between India and Thailand)

Steven M. Newman | April 1, 1983 - April 1, 1987 | Second man to walk around the world

However, it should be noted the WRA were not in existence nor did rules exist at the time of his walk.It should be noted and with relation to above new rules where a minimum of 4 continents are required he had two gaps (Burma between India and Thailand and also in the Middle-East) Steven Newman WEBSITE Author of World Walk and Leters from Steven.
Jean Believue | August 18th, 2000, at 9:00 am - October 15, 2011 | Third man to walk around the world walking 75,000 km for 11 years in 64 countries!the longest continuous world walk and has preliminary qualification stage for WRA recognition as per the world runners association WRA guidelines. The WRA RULES has a verification/recognition process for world walkers within their world runner verification process. A six continent world walk with four having no gaps and is likely to be the first fully DOCUMENTED world walk. His WEBSITE was also monitored very closely and regularly during his expedition by a member of the WRA, albeit prior to that members membership to the WRA. This is the only true world walk and circumnavigation which seems to fulfill all the qualification requirements - especially minimum distance required. See his website to order his book in French L'Homme Qui Marche
Arthur Blessitt | December 25, 1969 - still walking | 40,600 miles | Known for carrying a cross through every nation of the world, 321 countries (including Island Groups and Territories), of which 54 were in open war. This expedition was not possible to scrutinize and would be up to the walker to provide transparency evidence but as you can see started before such walks required transperancy or even had the toughest rules possible. Please note the WRA authenticity procedure is tougher than those required by GWR.
Guinness World Records 2014 page 271 and http://www.blessitt.com/GuinnessRecords/GuinnessRecordsPage.html Note: Unable to verify for WRA RULES were not in existence when his walk began. The World Runners Association being the governing body for world runners and walkers. |
Ffyona Campbell | 20,000 miles | First female claim to walk around the world. Later she admitted to taking transport and not returning to previous location to continue due to sponsor pressure in the USA which disqualifies her claim.
This walk was in stages and does not fulfill circumnavigation criteria.
Dumitru Dan | 1910-1923 | He crossed five continents over three oceans, through 76 countries and over 1,500 cities, wearing out 497 pairs of shoes. |
