Greg Chappell scored five of his twenty-four Test cricket centuries at Brisbane Cricket Ground.[1]

Greg Stephen Chappell is a former cricketer and captain of the Australia national cricket team. He scored 27 centuries (scores of 100 runs or more in a single innings) in Test and One Day International (ODI) cricket matches organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC). He was named as one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year in 1973.[2] Identified as "the outstanding Australian batsman of his generation" by ESPNcricinfo's Gideon Haigh, Chappell scored 24 centuries in Tests and 3 in ODIs.[3]

Chappell scored his first Test century in his debut match against England in December 1970.[4] Ensuring that "he lived up to expectations right from his debut,"[5] he scored 108 in 218 deliveries.[6]

Chappell's highest Test score of 247 not out was reached in 356 deliveries against New Zealand in March 1974 in Wellington.[7] The performance is the seventeenth-highest score by an Australian batsman in Test cricket.[8] He also scored a century in the last Test match of his career;[9] he is one of the four players who have achieved the feat of scoring centuries in both their first and last Test match.[lower-greek 1] Chappell scored his twenty four Test centuries against five different opponents, and was most successful against England, making nine.[4] As of June 2013, he is seventeenth in the international Test century-makers list,[lower-greek 2] and sixth in the Australian list.[11] Out of his twenty-four Test centuries, Chappell made eight in The Ashes and four in the Frank Worrell Trophy.[12] His team won 13 times when he scored a century, and lost only two, with seven getting drawn.[12] He scored 13 of his Test centuries while being the captain of the team.[12]

The maiden ODI century of Chappell was against England in 1977; he scored 125 runs not out off 137 deliveries.[13][14] His highest score in ODIs is 138 not out from 109 deliveries against New Zealand.[15] As of June 2013, he is fourteenth in the list of all-time Australian ODI century-makers.[lower-greek 3] All of his ODI centuries were made while being the captain of the team.[12]
