This is a list of earthquakes in 1927. Only magnitude 6.0 or greater earthquakes appear on the list. Lower magnitude events are included if they have caused death, injury or damage. All dates are listed according to UTC time. China and Japan both saw great destruction caused by earthquakes in March and May. The China earthquake in particular had nearly 41,000 deaths. Yunnan Province, China had its fair share of earthquakes. Ukraine had several earthquakes with one on September 11 causing deaths. The West Bank region had a destructive tremor in July.

January
- A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck northern Baja California, Mexico on January 1 at an unknown depth. A few people were injured, at least $1 million (1927 rate) damage was caused with 20 homes being damaged in Calexico, California.[1] There were unconfirmed reports of a tsunami resulting in a death in southern California but speculation was that this was weather-related.[2]
- A magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck the southern Sea of Japan on January 15 at a depth of 420.0 km.[3]
- A magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck Vanuatu on January 24 at a depth of 35.0 km.[4]
- A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck the Southwest Indian Ridge on January 29 at a depth of 35.0 km.[5]

- A catastrophic magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck off the west coast of Honshu, Japan on March 7 at a depth of 9.6 km. 3,022 lives were lost, 3,295 people were injured and around $40 million (1927 rate) in damage was caused. 15,594 homes were destroyed and 9,821 more were damaged.[14][15]
- A magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck the southern East Pacific Rise on March 12 at a depth of 50.0 km.[16]
- A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck off the coast of northern Peru on March 13 at a depth of 35.0 km.[17]
- A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck Yunnan Province, China on March 14 at an unknown depth. At least 51 people were killed and many homes were destroyed in the region.[18]

- A devastating magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck Gansu Province, China on May 22 at a depth of 25.0 km. This would go down as one of the worst earthquakes to strike China. 40,912 people were killed and 524 were injured. 26,674 homes were destroyed.[42][43]

- , A rare magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck south of Crimea on September 11 at a depth of 35.0 km. Another smaller event occurred back in June 1927 in the area. This strength of earthquake is unusual for the area. 11 deaths were reported. 122 people were hurt and many homes were destroyed or damaged.[77][78]

- A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck off the coast of central California on November 4 at a depth of 15.0 km. Several towns in California sustained damage. A tsunami was reported along the coast of California.[89][90]
- A magnitude 6.6 earthquake struck the Banda Sea, Indonesia on November 6 at a depth of 217.2 km.[91]
- A magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck the southern Indian Ocean on November 8 at a depth of 35.0 km.[92]
- A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck Sakha Republic, Russia on November 14 at a depth of 35.0 km. This appears to be a foreshock to the event nearly 5 hours later that morning.[93]
- A magnitude 6.6 earthquake struck Sakha Republic, Russia on November 14 at a depth of 15.0 km.[94]
- A magnitude 6.6 earthquake struck Coquimbo Region, Chile on November 14 at a depth of 35.0 km. This event came just over an hour after the Russia earthquake.[95]

- A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck Sakha Republic, Russia on November 15 at a depth of 35.0 km.[97]
- A magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck Davao Gulf, Mindanao, Philippines on November 16 at a depth of 44.0 km.[98]
