- A magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck off the east coast of Taiwan on January 8 at a depth of 0.0km. [2] This event came within 24 hours of the previous one and due to being a similar magnitude can be considered a doublet earthquake. Taiwan was struck by another 6.7 magnitude quake on December 24, 1912.
- A magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck north of Minahasa Peninsula, Indonesia on January 11 at a depth of 0.0km. [3]
- A magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck the northern Indian Ocean on January 19 at a depth of 0.0km. [4]
- A magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck the Kuril Islands, Russia on January 19 at a depth of 150.0km. [5] Some damage was reported. [6]
- A magnitude 6.6 earthquake struck the Solomon Islands on February 14 at a depth of 100.0km. [7]
