- A magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck Yunnan Province, China on February 15th at a depth of 0.0km.[4] At least 101 people were killed and extensive damage was reported in the region especially at Dengchaun. [5]
- A magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck Parkfield, California on March 3rd. The depth was unknown. Some damaged was reported in the epicentral area.[6] [7]
- A magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck the Gulf of California on March 5th at a depth of 0.0km.[8]
- A magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck off the coast of the Lindi Region, Tanzania on March 16th at a depth of 0.0km.[9]
- A magnitude 6.4 - 6.7 earthquake struck Dobrich Province, Bulgaria on March 31st at a depth of 60km. 4 people died, 50 more were injured and there was fairly extensive damage with at least 1,200 homes destroyed.[10]

- A magnitude 7.9 earthquake struck the Loyalty Islands, New Caledonia region on August 9th at a depth of 0.0km.[21] There were reports of several fatalities. Some damage was also apparent in the region. [22]
- A magnitude 7.5 earthquake struck off the east coast of Honshu, Japan on August 9th at a depth of 35.0km.[23] 18 people were killed, 8 homes were destroyed and another 615 damaged in Aomori Prefecture. There was extensive damage to the transport links in the area. The deaths and damage listed were also linked to the 7.2 quake earlier in the day. [24]
- A magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck north of Bougainville Island, Papua New Guinea on August 10th at a depth of 0.0km.[25]
- A magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck south of the Fiji Islands on August 11th at a depth of 0.0km.[26]
- A magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck the Santa Cruz Islands on September 8th at a depth of 0.0km.[27]
- An earthquake struck Luzon, Philippines on September 10th. The magnitude and depth were unknown. Damage was reported in Tayabas Province.[28]
