List of dragon video games

This is an incomplete list of video games which strongly feature dragons. This includes games where the player character is a dragon, or where a dragon is the primary antagonist or enemy variant.

Atomic Battle Dragons 2005 Windows, Windows Mobile A jousting and platform game on dragons and remake of the arcade game Joust from 1982 developed by Isotope 244.
Bahamut Lagoon 1996 Super Famicom, Virtual Console (Wii) Japan-only. Re-released on the Virtual Console in August 2009.
Black Lamp 1988 Amiga, Atari 8-bit, Atari ST, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum An arcade adventure in which Jack the jester must retrieve 9 stolen lamps in order to win the hand of his love, Princess Grizelda. The black lamps are guarded by dragons.[5]
Blazing Dragons 1996 PlayStation, Sega Saturn An adventure game based on the animated series of the same name.
Breath of Fire series 1993–2002 Game Boy Advance, Mobile, PlayStation, PS2, PSP, SNES, Windows Role-playing game where the player is an adventurer named Ryu who can shapeshift into different types of dragons.
Castle of Dragon 1990 Arcade, NES A side-scrolling combat game with a dragon theme. The game also featuers some platform jumping sections.[6]
Crimson Dragon 2013 Xbox One Successor to the Panzer Dragoon series. Players control a dragon with a human mount, using the Kinect motion controller to guide them through the game and attack enemies.[7]
Darkmere 1994 Amiga A topdown action-adventure game where the aim is to find and slaughter the ferocious dragon Enywas.[8]
Dark Souls 2011 PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows An action role-playing game and spiritual successor that includes the powerful Hellkite Dragon boss.
Dark Souls 2 2014 PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows Sequel to Dark Souls.
Dawn of the Dragons 2010 Facebook A multiplayer role-playing game in which players control a farmhand whose village has been decimated by monsters. The farmhand takes up arms in order to pursue the dragons which threaten to enslave the populace.[9]
Demon's Souls 2009 PlayStation 3 An action role-playing game involving the defeat of the Dragon God boss.
Divinity II 2009 Xbox 360, Windows An action role-playing game where the player's character is a dragon slayer who gains the ability to transform into a dragon and take to the skies to do battle with enemies.[10]
Divinity: Dragon Commander 2013 Xbox 360, Windows Turn-based strategy RPG set in the Divinity universe. Players assume the role of a dragon knight before the events of Divinity II and Divine Divinity and battle other dragons and armies while expanding their empire.
Dragons and Titans 2013 Windows, Mac, Facebook A MOBA game where players choose from a wide assortment of dragons and weapons to play in 5v5 PvP online battles or a single-player campaign.
Dragon Age: Origins 2009 PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Windows Role-playing video game where several dragons are featured as bosses. There are also lesser dragons which can be battled in the game. The antagonist is an archdemon which has the form of a dragon.
Dragon Age II 2011 PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Windows Action-RPG sequel to Dragon Age: Origins which features several dragon bosses and many drakes to battle.
Dragon Age: Inquisition 2014 PlayStation 3, PlayStation4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Windows Sequel to Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II.
Dragon Blade: Wrath of Fire 2007 Wii An action game played using the Wii's motion-sensing controllers. Players control Dal who must reassemble a sword which contains the fire dragon, who was imprisoned by a group of dark dragons.[11]

Dragon Buster 1984 Arcade, Virtual Console Action game with role-playing elements, the hero Clovis must rescue princess Celia from a dragon.[12]
Dragon Fighter 1990 NES
Dragon Lord 1990 Amiga, Atari ST, MS-DOS Strategy RPG in which players hatch and raise dragons as one of three competing dragon lords.
Dragon Rage 2001 PlayStation 2 Shooter game in which players control a dragon who must battle the orcs which have enslaved the land's mystical creatures.[13]
Dragon Saber 1990 Arcade, PC Engine The sequel to Dragon Spirit. Like its predecessor it is a challenging vertically-scrolling shoot 'em up in which one or two players control warriors who have been transformed into dragons.[14]
Dragon Spirit 1987 Amiga, Amstrad CPC, Arcade, Atari ST, Commodore 64, NES, PlayStation Portable, Sharp X68000, TurboGrafx-16, Virtual Console, Xbox 360, ZX Spectrum Vertically-scrolling shoot 'em up in which players control a dragon. Power-ups can add heads to the dragon and increase its firepower. Both flying and ground-based enemies must be targeted separately, a gameplay facet seen in Xevious.[15]
Dragon Valor 1999 PlayStation An action role-playing game played from a third-person perspective. Players initially control Clovis, a young man who seeks to avenge his sister's death by slaying the dragon which killed her. Once Clovis' quest is complete the player selects a female character for Clovis to partner with. The resultant offspring becomes the next player character with their own quests to complete.[16]
Dragon Wars 1989
Dragon's Crown 2013 PlayStation 3, Playstation Vita Action role-playing game structured like traditional side-scrolling beat 'em up such as Capcom's Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow over Mystara or Sega's Golden Axe where players move their characters across the screen into the background or foreground while defeating the assailants that confront them from all angles.
Dragon's Dogma 2012 PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 Action role-playing game where players control a main character directly as well as indirectly guiding up to three additional 'pawns' during play. A reborn warrior must kill the dragon which ripped out their heart.[17]

Dragoneer's Aria 2007 PlayStation Portable Role-playing game in which dragoons, human warriors, help six dragons defend the world. The black dragon, once banished, returns to the world and must be defeated.[18]
Dragonfire 1982 Atari 2600, GameLine, ColecoVision, Intellivision, TRS-80, VIC-20 An action game where a prince must recover the king's treasure from the dragon which has invaded the king's castle. Gameplay consists of two screens; the first screen involves avoiding fireballs and gaining entry to the castle, the second screen sees the prince avoiding the dragon and its fireballs while collecting treasures.[19]

Dragonheart: Fire & Steel 1996 Game Boy, PlayStation, Sega Saturn, Windows A side-scrolling beat 'em up in which a dragonslayer must thwart an evil prince with the help of a dragon. Based on the film Dragonheart. The game features rendered backgrounds and digitized character graphics.[20]
Dragonriders of Pern 1983 Commodore 64 A strategy game set in Anne McCaffrey's world of Pern.
Dragonseeds 1998 PlayStation The objective of the game is to generate and raise a dragon to adulthood in order to fight opponents in the arena. Dragons age and must be eventually released once they are too old to fight, leaving the player to raise another in order to earn more acclaim in the arena.[21]
Dragonstomper 1982 Atari 2600 A role-playing game in which players must increase their character's strength through combat with monsters, acquiring items and experience, before facing a dragon in its lair. The game is loaded into the console using the cassette-based Starpath Supercharger peripheral.[22]
Dragonstone 1994 Amiga, Amiga CD A topdown RPG game in which the dragon hordes must be vanquished and rescue Princess Kirstie.[23]
DragonStrike 1990 Amiga, Commodore 64, MS-DOS, NES, Sharp X68000
Drakan series 1999–2002 PlayStation 2, Windows A 2 game series developed by Surreal Software and Published by Sony Computer Entertainment America/Europe (depending on country). The game follows 2 central characters: Rynn, a woman who is a warrior, and Arokh, a large friendly dragon. The original game came out on PC in 1999 (The PS1 version was canceled), and the sequel came out in 2002 exclusively for the PlayStation 2. The series was supposed to feature a third title by surreal and Sony for the PlayStation 3, but it never came to fruition. Design Docs can be found on several game beta sites, such as Unseen 64.
Drakengard 2003 Mobile, PlayStation 2 An action game which combines elements of the Panzer Dragoon and Dynasty Warriors series. A young prince is mortally wounded in a battle to save his sister from a conquering empire. After forming a pact with a dying red dragon the pair's lives are saved, allowing players to use the prince to fight enemy soldiers or take to the skies on the dragon's back to attack ground forces or airborne opponents.[24]
Drakengard 2 2005 PlayStation 2 This sequel features additional elements of role-playing games along with the action gameplay of the original. Players control one of up to four characters throughout the game, which is set 18 years after the events of Drakengard.[25]
Drakengard 3 2014 PlayStation 3 This game is a prequel to the original game, this time controlling Zero and Mikhail, the dragon.
Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow over Mystara 1996 Arcade, Sega Saturn
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim 2011 PlayStation 3, Windows, Xbox 360 Action role-playing game and the fifth main game in The Elder Scrolls-series.Dragons are featured as antagonists in the story. The master of the creatures, Alduin, who takes the form of a black dragon, is the main antagonist. The player can freely explore the province of skyrim, with over 100 hours of content. The player plays as a dragonborn, a being with a body of a mortal and a soul of a dragon, which gives him/her the ability to use magical spells called dragon shouts, which is a verbal magic used by dragons. The game received very high critical acclaim, receiving multiple game of the year awards and many critics and players consider it as one of the best roleplaying games ever made.
Guild Wars 2 2012 Windows An MMORPG, Guild Wars 2 has six Elder dragons as main antagonists: Zhaitan, Primordus, Jormag, Kralkatorrik, Mordremoth, and a sixth dragon, currently without a name, often called "deep sea dragon". The Elder Dragons are extremely ancient, powerful draconic creatures of unknown origins. Described as forces of nature and primordial forces from the view of Tyrians, the dragons seem no different from and just as unstoppable as a blizzard or earthquake. Each dragon holds a tie to a certain force — fire, ice, crystal, even death — and their minions reflect such. Though all share the common goal of consuming all life, each of the Elder Dragons have their own unique motivation and ways to act, ranging from what they and their minions do to how they corrupt their surroundings and those who seek their power. Similarly, Elder Dragons appear to be hostile to each other, as their minions will fight another dragon's minions just as they would fight any living creature.
Eye of the Beholder II: The Legend of Darkmoon 1991 Amiga, MS-DOS, Sega CD, SNES A Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game set in the Forgotten Realms universe.[26] The Leader of the Temple Darkmoon, Dran Draggore, changes into a dragon during the final battle.[27]
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon 2013 PlayStation 3, Windows, Xbox 360 A game set in the 1980s view of the future, with dragons.
Fire Emblem 1990-2013 NES, Super Nintendo, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, Nintendo 3DS, GameCube, Wii Dragons are featured as protagonists, antagonists, player characters and more throughout the series.
Freedom Planet 2014 Windows One of the playable characters is a water dragon; an ancient race of dragons is a key aspect of the plot
Hoard 2010 PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Windows A multiplayer game where players take on the role as dragons and compete to hoard gold and kidnap princesses. The PlayStation Portable version is single-player only.[28]

I of the Dragon 2004 Windows Action role-playing game, the majority of which is spent fighting enemies as one of three types of dragon.[29]
Istaria: Chronicles of the Gifted 2003 Windows An MMO which offers dragons as a playable race.[30]
Keio Flying Squadron 1994 Mega-CD/Sega CD An anime style shoot 'em up game where players control a bunny girl riding on her pet dragon. Enemies are attacked using bombs and the dragon's breath.[31]
Lair 2007 PlayStation 3 An action game controlled by the sixaxis motion controls within the PlayStation 3 console's control pads. Players control a dragonrider who can attack airborne enemies or land his dragon and engage enemies on the ground is close combat.[32]
The Legend of Dragoon 2000 PlayStation, PlayStation Network A Role-playing game developed and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation. It was released in Japan on December 2, 1999, in North America on June 11, 2000, and on January 19, 2001 in Europe.

Despite mixed critical reception, the game has amassed a very large fanbase following, including several online petitions for a remake or prequel/sequel. The game was rereleased on PlayStation Network in May 2012.

Legend of the Red Dragon 1989 MS-DOS, OS/2, Windows A multiplayer text-only BBS door game. The game is turn-based; players are given a set number of turns each day to perform actions such as attacking other players or the titular red dragon.[33]
Lost Souls 1990 Telnet A MUD in which dragons are playable characters under several circumstances.
Panzer Dragoon series 1995–2002 Game Gear, PlayStation 2, R-Zone, Sega Saturn, Windows, Xbox 1995's Panzer Dragoon is a rail shooter game likened to Space Harrier in which the player controls a dragon and its human rider. In 1996 it was followed by Panzer Dragoon II Zwei, a prequel again released on the Sega Saturn. 1998 saw the release of Panzer Dragoon Saga for the Sega Saturn, a role-playing game with hybrid turn-based and real-time battles. In 2002 Panzer Dragoon Orta was released for the Xbox, returning to the rail shooter gameplay of the earlier games.[34]

Saint Dragon 1989 Arcade, Amiga, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum A side-scrolling shoot 'em up, players control a cyborg dragon and must defeat cyborg animal bosses such as a cobra and a bull.[35]
Savage Skies 2002 PlayStation 2, Windows
Shining Force 1992 Sega Genesis, Game Boy Advance, Dreamcast, Wii, Sonic's Genesis collection, xbox 360 PlayStation 3 A tactical role-playing game in which a team of heroes battles to prevent the resurrection of (and ultimately fights face-to-face) an artificially created dragon called Dark Dragon. Originally a Genesis exclusive, it later received a remake on the Game Boy Advance and emulated ports on the Dreamcast and Wii.
Spyro series 1998–2008 Game Boy Advance, GameCube, Nintendo DS, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii, Xbox, Xbox 360 A series that stars Spyro, a young purple dragon, as the Protagonist. The main series has been developed by 5 different developers in its 10 year run. (Insomniac Games 1998-2000, Check Six 2002, Vivendi Universal 2005-2006, Krome Studios 2006-2007, Etranges Libellules 2008). The series spun off into Skylanders, developed by Activision. With the release of Skylanders 2: Giants, spyro and skylanders are no longer part of the same franchise, effectively ending the series in 2008 with the release of Legend Of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon, ending on the franchises 10th anniversary. Although replaced with an almost unrelated franchise, 3 different characters from the Spyro series appear in Skylanders: Spyro, Cynder and Sparx. Additionally, several easter eggs that reference the classic spyro titles and the legend spyro series are also present, most notably the Balloonists, Auric the bear, and more.
Syvalion 1988 Arcade, PlayStation 2, Sharp X68000, SNES A shooter game where players control a dragon with a limited firebreath weapon.[36]
Thanatos 1986 Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum An arcade adventure, acclaimed its large sprite for the dragon under the player's control.
Thunder Castle 1986 Intellivision An arcade adventure, in which the player is a knight who must kill a dragon in a maze, while also avoiding bats and other obstacles.
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings 2011 Microsoft Windows, OS X, Xbox 360 Action role-playing sequel to The Witcher. Main character Geralt engages polymorphic dragons several times during gameplay. The first dragon engaged is named Villentretenmerth, and later, Villentretenmerth's daughter, Saesenthessis.
