Global Militarization Index

The Global Militarization Index (GMI) depicts the relative weight and importance of the military apparatus of one state in relation to its society as a whole. For this, the GMI home a number of indicators to represent the degree of militarization of a country:[2]

Note: there is no reliable data on military spending, number of armed forces, and number of heavy weapons systems on North Korea. This makes a calculation of its level of militarization impossible although it is possible that it would top the list.
