List of converts to Sikhism

This is a list of converts to Sikhism. Sikhism does not favour proselytizing or vigorous conversion campaigns, but allows people to follow the religion according to their own will. Anyone interested in adopting Sikhism as a his/her religion is free to do so irrespective of the gender, race or ethnicity.

Christianity

• Max Arthur Macauliffe (1841–1913) - A senior British administrator who was posted in the Punjab, Macauliffe was a prolific scholar and author who converted to Sikhism in the 1860s.^[1][2]
• Vic Briggs - Former blues musician who converted and took the name Vikram Singh Khalsa. Later he became the first non-subcontinental to perform kirtan at Harimandir Sahib.^[3]
• Vikram Kaur Khalsa - A former model and actress who starred in several horror movies.^[4][5]
• Gurmukh - Yoga teacher and co-founder and director of the Golden Bridge Yoga Center in Los Angeles.^[6][7]
• Babaji Singh- He is credited for translating Guru Granth Sahib, the holy text of the Sikhs into Spanish.^[8][9]
• Dharma Singh Khalsa - A medical researcher in the field of Alzheimer's Disease.^[10]
• Mahan Atma Singh Khalsa - Formerly, Andy Strachan was a guitarist and a member of DYS (band) and later co-founded the more rock-focused band Slaughter Shack. After leaving music, Strachan has since converted to Sikhism.^[11]
• Martin Singh - Nova Scotia pharmacist and businessman and candidate for the leadership of the New Democratic Party of Canada in 2012.

Judaism

• Guru Ganesha Singh Khalsa - Guru Ganesha Singh Khalsa (née David Sandler) is an American entrepreneur and musician.^[12]

Islam

• Alia Kaur is the sister of 7/7 London suicide bomber Hasib Hussain. Kaur embraced the Sikh way of life in the late 1990s. Her strict Muslim family disowned her after discovering about her conversion.^[13][14][15]

• Latif Singh Diaye - Latif is the son of renowned Senegalese-American Imam Xadir Diaye. Latif is a court stenographer and the author of ‘My Life As A Black Sikh’. Due to his father’s liberal interpretation of Islam, there was no issue with his apostasy and conversion into the Sikh faith.^[15]

• Shaheed Lachhman Singh Babbar, formerly Bashir Mohammad – Babbar was a former Punjab police officer who embraced Sikhism when, ironically, in the company of Sikh separatists whose organisation he was attempting to infiltrate.^[15][16]

• Shaheed Sakeena Begum, was the wife of Shaheed Lachman Singh, she became Rani Kaur when she converted. She was martyred alongside her husband in Calcutta.^[16]

• Kuldeep Manak the famous Punjabi folk singer was born Latif Mohammed in the village Jalal on the 15th of November 1951. Coming from a family of Hazoori Raggi's he converted to Sikhism in the late 1960's. ^[17]

• Sant Lakhbir Singh was born Karim Baksh to Muslim parents in the village of Bakapur about 3 km from Phillaur, in Punjab, he was "officially" converted to Sikhism at the age of 43 but had been a practising Sikh since the age of 15 when he met Bhai Kahla Singh of Banga in the district of Jalandhar (Punjab) where spent two years emerging himself in the Guru Granth Sahib till he could recite it from memory. ^[18]
