List of Test cricket centuries scored on debut

A player batting in his debut Test cricket match has hit a century (100 runs or more) on 100 occasions by 98 batsmen. Charles Bannerman became the first player to achieve this when he scored 165 not out against England during the first ever Test match, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in March 1877. Bannerman was the first of 19 Australian batsman to score a century on debut, which is the largest contribution to the list of the Test-playing teams. England's R. E. Foster remains the highest scorer of Test debutants. His innings of 287, a double-century, was scored against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground in 1903 and remained the world record for the highest individual score until 1930. Four other double-centuries have been scored on Test debut, including one by the West Indian Lawrence Rowe. Rowe's first innings score of 214 was followed by 100 not out later in the match, scored against New Zealand at Sabina Park in 1972. The Pakistani Yasir Hameed is the other player to have scored two centuries on Test debut. Yasir Hameed achieved this at the National Stadium, Karachi in 2003 against Bangladesh. The most recent century was scored by South African Stiaan van Zyl at SuperSport Park in Centurion against the West Indies.[1]
