List of TV-MA rated television series

The following is a list of TV-MA rated television series in the United States. A TV-MA rating, usually issued by either the programming network or the FCC, means the program may be inappropriate for viewers younger than age 17. The FCC originally named this rating TV-M in early 1997, but was changed because of a trademark dispute and to remove confusion with the ESRB's "M for Mature" rating for video games. A program rated TV-MA may contain extreme graphic violence (V), strong profanity (L), overtly sexual dialogue (D), nudity and/or strong sexual content (S). The vast majority of television shows that carry this rating are on cable or satellite TV. The film Schindler's List was the first network TV airing to display this rating when it was aired on NBC in 1997 and 1999, and the pilot episode of the CBS police drama Brooklyn South made this series the first network TV series to display the rating. It is important to note that, for many of these series, not all episodes are rated TV-MA; some receive TV-14 or, on occasion, TV-PG, for certain episodes. In addition, certain programs may receive different ratings under certain circumstances, depending on the opinions of the network or FCC rating authorities. This is not an exhaustive list of all television series that receive TV-MA ratings in America. In addition, pay-per-view shows and movies, films released for TV, live televised events, and so on that receive TV-MA ratings do not appear in this list.
