Out in space, the Keeper of the legendary Energems, ten crystals that hold great power, is being chased by Sledge, a bounty hunter who is bent on acquiring the gems' power and conquering the universe. Keeper manages to outsmart Sledge and his crew by exchanging the Energems with a bomb, bonding the power of the gems with a group of ten dinosaurs while the bomb detonates on Sledge's ship. Fury (Sledge's right-hand-man) returns to Earth to enact revenge on Keeper. However, the explosion on Sledge's ship causes the asteroids he was holding via tractor beam to fall to Earth, wiping out the dinosaurs, and presumably Keeper and Fury, as well. 65 million years later, in the present day, a young man named Tyler Navarro discovers the Red Energem while venturing into a volcanic cave his father once explored a few years back. Meanwhile, Shelby Watkins, a waitress at the Amber Beach Dinosaur Museum's Dino Bite Cafe, stows away on a paleontological dig and sees a cloaked figure stealing one of the crates. She goes after the thief, a monster known as Iceage, on her own and discovers the Pink Energem in the process. Tyler arrives to aid Shelby when Iceage begins attacking her, and with the power of their respective Energems, they unwittingly initiate their first transformation into Power Rangers. The pair begins fighting against Iceage, only for the monster to be hurled away by the T-Rex Zord, which disappears just as quickly as it arrived. Following the experience, Shelby asks Tyler for a ride back to the museum, where Tyler reveals that his dad went missing ten years ago and he has been looking for him ever since. Tyler shows her a sketch of a monster in his dad's journal (strongly resembling Fury) whom he believes to be responsible for his father's disappearance. As they drive off, Fury is revealed to have survived all these years and states that he senses the Energems.
