List of League of Legends champions
The League of Legends video game features a wide cast of characters involved in the game. They may either come as non-playable characters (NPCs), or as playable champions, which are a large majority of the cast. The champions reside in the fictional world of Runeterra, whose landscape and geography has been significantly altered by the excessive use of magic in past disputes and wars. In order to prevent further damage to the land, a group of powerful magicians known as summoners have decided to form the "League of Legends", an organization which would serve to mediate future political conflicts through sanctioned battles within the Institute of War. Although the Institute of War is primarily to keep peace between the two major city states, Demacia and Noxus, individuals who enter the League of Legends can come from a wide range of regions in Runeterra. Those that have been chosen to participate in these battles are considered champions. With the exception of Urf the Manatee, a fake champion created as part of an April Fool's Day joke, all champions are playable characters.[1] Each champion possesses different strengths and skills that define their play-styles. Most champions, with the exceptions of Jayce, Elise, Lee Sin, Gnar, Rek'Sai, Quinn, and Rengar, have four active abilities and one passive ability. While each champion's background is explored in their lore, the background of the League of Legends world is subject to change—as are the champions' interactions—as of 2014 when developers Riot expressed an interest in expanding the game's mythos.[2]

Corki | The Daring Bombardier | 19 September 2009 | When Heimerdinger and his yordle colleagues migrated to Piltover, they embraced science as a way of life, and they immediately made several groundbreaking contributions to the techmaturgical community. What yordles lack in stature, they make up for with industriousness. Corki, the Daring Bombardier, gained his title by test-piloting one of these contributions - the original design for the Reconnaissance Operations Front-Line Copter, an aerial assault vehicle which has become the backbone of the Bandle City Expeditionary Force (BCEF). Together with his squadron - the Screaming Yipsnakes - Corki soars over Valoran, surveying the landscape and conducting aerial acrobatics for the benefit of onlookers below.
Corki is the most renowned of the Screaming Yipsnakes for remaining cool under fire and exhibiting bravery to the point of madness. Before the League, he served several tours of duty, often volunteering for missions that would take him behind enemy lines, either gathering intelligence or delivering messages through hot zones. He thrived on danger, and enjoyed nothing more than a good dogfight in the morning. More than just an ace pilot, Corki also made several modifications to his copter, outfitting it with an arsenal of weapons which some speculate were more for show than functionality. When open hostilities ceased as part of the agreement surrounding the formation of the League, Corki was forced into a retirement, which he felt cut the engines and clipped the wings. He tried to make do with stunt flying and canyon running, but it was never the same without the refreshing smell of gunpowder streaking through the air around him. When Heimerdinger joined the League of Legends, it was no surprise to see Corki follow soon after, eager to test his mettle against the best the world has to offer. He is Corki - death from above![3] |

Teemo | The Swift Scout | 21 February 2009 | Teemo is a legend among his yordle brothers and sisters in Bandle City. As far as yordles are concerned, there is something just slightly off about him. While Teemo enjoys the companionship of other yordles, he also insists on frequent solo missions in the ongoing defense of Bandle City. Despite his genuinely warm personality, something switches off inside Teemo's mind during combat so that the lives he must end while on patrol do not burden him. Even as a young recruit, the drill instructors and other trainees found it a little disconcerting that, while Teemo was normally charming and kind, he turned deadly serious and highly efficient the minute combat exercises began. Teemo's superiors quickly steered him toward the Scouts of the Mothership, which is one of Bandle City's most distinguished Special Forces unit alongside the Megling Commandos.
While most yordles do not handle solo scouting missions with a great deal of finesse, Teemo is remarkably efficient at them. His record of success in defending Bandle City from infiltrators easily makes him one of the most dangerous yordles alive, though you'd never know it by having a cup of honey mead with him at his favorite inn. Bandle City chose Teemo as their first champion for the League, and he has taken to it like a duck to water. His signature weapon - a blowgun - uses a rare ajunta poison he personally gathers from the jungles of Kumungu. To help cope with his lengthy periods of isolation, Teemo recently struck up a friendship with Tristana, a fellow League champion and fellow member of Bandle City's Special Forces. This connection is healthy for both yordles, though now Valoran's voracious media outlets circulate rumors that the friendship is turning into a romantic relationship. Regardless, Teemo is a crowd favorite in the League of Legends, and a pint-sized foe that many have come to fear. Teemo rides a thin line between chipper compatriot and unrepentant killer, but there's no one else I'd rather have as a friend.—Tristana[4] |
Passive: Camouflage. Upon AFKing, teemo will become a human ward revealing all enemies that pass by. Unlike normal wards, teemo is not immune from skill shots or area of affect damage.
If teemo should move, back, or cast spells, then his stealth will end. In exchange, teemo will get a three-second buff that increases his attack speed by 40%. This ability is extremely useful early game especially in securing first blood or stealing the enemy jungle's blue buff. Getting first blood: start off with exhaust and ignite as your summoner spells. Upon Starting, buy a red elixer put one skill point in e. Make your way down mid lane and sit in the dead center of the map. Let your ally mid laner be pushed in. As the enemy mid laner passes over extends, auto attack the enemy until first blood is secured. Stealing enemy blue buff: start out with teleport and smite as your summoner spells. Upon starting, buy boots of swiftness, buy a ward and put one point in q. Teleport to your midlane turret and make your way to the other side of the enemy's blue camp. Place a ward in the brush of the enemy blue buff. wait on the other side in stealth. As the enemy jungler is about to finish their buff, smite the blue buff over wall. If the enemy jungler is low enough, you may even want to flash over the wall and get yourself first blood. Q: Blinding Dart: Immune against Lee Sin W: Move Quick: slowest movement speed buff in the game E: Toxic Shot: This use to be stronger R: Noxious Trap: Place as many of these things around the map as possible. Sit in your base and wait for the kills to rack up. |
Tristana | The Megling Gunner | 21 February 2009 | Tristana trained her whole life until she reached the age at which she could join the military and earn her place among the Megling Commandos. The Megling Commandos are the oldest yordle military unit that is still in service and the most respected and feared of all warriors within Bandle City. They are esteemed for their courageousness, brutality, and lethality. The Megling senior officers were dazzled by Tristana’s capabilities.
Tristana’s heart remains with her unit, however, the pull to the League of Legends war overwhelming, so now Tristana is a protector of Bandle City and a champion. Tristana may be an extremely determined and focused Megling Gunner, but the way she presents herself when it comes to her personal life is a stark contrast. While away from the Fields of Justice, Tristana is rather cheerful and very friendly. Tristana is close friends with Teemo, The Swift Scout. The bond as both yordles and as fellow warriors and champions. |
Passive (Draw a Bead): Increases Tristana's Attack Range as she levels.
Q (Rapid Fire): Tristana fires her weapon rapidly, increasing her Attack Speed for a short time. Shooting enemies marked with her Explosive Charge reduces the cooldown by a small amount each hit. W (Rocket Jump): Tristana fires at the ground to propel her to a distant location, dealing damage and slowing surrounding units for a brief period where she lands. Damage is increased if Tristana lands on an enemy unit affected with her Explosive Charge and explodes the Explosive Charge immediately if it has 4 stacks. On a champion kill or assist, Rocket Jump's cooldown resets. E (Explosive Charge): When Tristana kills a unit, her cannonballs burst into shrapnel, dealing damage to surrounding enemies. Can be activated to place a bomb on a target enemy that explodes after a short duration dealing damage to surrounding units. Tristana's basic attacks against the target increase the charge's damage by 25%, stacking up to 4 times. If Tristana basic attacks a target with 4 stacks, the charge explodes immediately. The detonation radius is twice as large if used on a turret. R (Buster Shot): Tristana loads a massive cannonball into her weapon and fires it at an enemy unit. This deals Magic Damage and knocks the target back.[5] Strategy: As a champion who is normally played as an attack damage carry, it's important to realize that Tristana is a champion that cannot take much damage so try to stay close to an ally champion that can block some of that damage for you. Her Rocket Jump ability can be used either as a gap closer or as an escape ability but most players will generally prefer this ability as the escape route unless you are sure that using her Rocket Jump will likely defeat the enemy champion or get close enough to deal some basic attacks to defeat the enemy champion. |

Taric | The Outrageous Knight | 19 August 2009 | There is a form of magic unknown to many Runeterrans and discredited by the few who are even aware of its existence. It is the magic of the earth, drawing power from the resonance of crystals and gems. Taric, the Gem Knight, is Runeterra's sole practitioner of this form of magic, having been erratically summoned to Runeterra from a faraway world. Back home, Taric's father was a distinguished healer in their home city. Taric was always interested in his father's pursuits, even from a young age. Despite his burgeoning understanding of herbs, plants, and animal medicines, it was the power of gems that most fascinated the growing boy. It wasn't long before Taric had exhausted his father's coveted library and set out on a path of his own. He wanted to help the people, but not by simply salving their wounds and curing their woes. He wasn't to be a healer, but a defender - one who used the power of earth to preserve and protect.
Taric became a wandering knight, renowned across his homeland as a guardian of the just until the day a spell of summoning grabbed him from his home and deposited him on Runeterra. Though disoriented and confused at first, he now feels that the continent of Valoran is in need of someone like him. Despite missing his homeland, Taric is happy to fight in the League, serving as a protector for all who seek one. His neat and stylish appearance combined with his shiny bejeweled armor and weapons have rapidly made him a celebrity champion of the League of Legends. Valoran's media, for some reason, has taken a great interest in his personal life. While open about his life as a champion and gracious in all things, Taric is tight-lipped about his life outside the League and prefers his privacy. As Taric's father taught him, every stone has its meaning. For Taric's enemies, they all mean trouble.[8] |
Passive (Gemcraft): After casting a spell, Taric's next basic attack deals bonus magic damage based on his Armor and reduces his cooldowns.
Q (Imbue): Taric brings forth earthen energy to heal an ally and himself. This heal is more potent when Taric heals only himself. W (Shatter): Taric is protected by a hardening aura, increasing the Armor of himself and nearby allied champions. He may choose to splinter the enchanted rocks surrounding him to deal damage and decrease the Armor of nearby enemies at the cost of some Armor for a short time. E (Dazzle): Taric emits a brilliant ball of prismatic light from his gemmed shield, stunning his target and damaging them based on how close he is to them. R (Radiance): Taric slams his hammer into the ground to deal damage to nearby enemies. For a time after, Taric's gems radiate energy, empowering Taric and his allies with bonus Attack Damage and Ability Power.[9] Strategy: Taric's usual role is playing as a tank support champion for the attack damage carry. The most preferred method of building this champion is by buying items that would increase his armor, magic resist, and health. When deciding which of his abilities to upgrade first at level 1, make sure to make that choice depending on the ally attack damage carry because if the attack damage carry plays a style of aggressiveness and can dodge possible enemy attacks then getting Radiance would be a better fit so that the attack damage carry's chances of defeating an enemy champion increase. If the ally attack damage carry is more reliant on trying to gain gold from minions, Imbue would be a better fit so that the attack damage carry can stay longer in their lane to gain more experience and gold faster than the enemy champions. After deciding the ability at level 1, it is best to then upgrade Taric's Shatter skill until it is maximized because it can give armor benefits to nearby ally champions which would increase the chances of the ally attack damage carry to survive an attack from the enemy champions. | ||

Udyr | The Spirit Walker | 2 December 2010 | Udyr is more than a man; he is a vessel for the untamed power of four primal animal spirits. When tapping into the spirits' bestial natures, Udyr can harness their unique strengths: the tiger grants him speed and ferocity, the turtle resilience, the bear might, and the phoenix its eternal flame. With their combined power, Udyr can turn back all those who would attempt to harm the natural order.
In the Freljord, there is a unique caste that lives outside the society of those savage lands. They are the custodians of the natural world: the Spirit Walkers. Once a generation, a child is born under a blood red moon, a child said to live between the two worlds of spirit and man. This child is brought to the Spirit Walker to continue the shamanic line. Udyr was such a child, and knew the howl of the tundra wolves even before he learned the language of his ancestors. Through the Spirit Walker, Udyr would one day learn the meaning of the spirits' calls and tend to the balance of nature. The Spirit Walker often told Udyr he would be tested more than those who had come before him, for the spirits of the Freljord were growing ever more restless, though the reason remained clouded. The answer arrived in the dead of winter, as Udyr and the Spirit Walker were descended upon by a fearsome figure known only through frightened whispers: the Ice Witch. Knowing the boy would fall easy prey to her vile magic, the Spirit Walker shielded the child from her assault at the cost of his own life. Wracked by grief, Udyr howled with fury, and he felt the Freljord itself howl with him. In that moment, the child embraced the spirits' primal nature and became a beast himself. Coursing with their untamed power, Udyr's angry roar shook the mountaintops and brought down a torrential avalanche. Once Udyr had finally clawed his way out of the frost, the Ice Witch was nowhere to be found. For years, the tribes of the north learned to avoid the wildman and his domain. Then one day, Udyr caught the scent of a fearless trespasser. Determined to chase the intruder from his territory, he attacked, only to be deflected with ease. The wildman launched himself at the stranger again and again, only to be effortlessly cast aside each time. Exhausted and defeated, Udyr felt his animosity ebb and croaked a clumsy who to the stranger. Lee Sin had come seeking the Spirit Walker's guidance and instead found a man who had also lost his way. The monk promised he would right Udyr's path and guided him to a monastery said to be protected by four eternal spirits of great power and wisdom. There, Udyr would find harmony. Lee Sin brought Udyr to a land that was a stark contrast to his birthplace. Survival was not the only law that governed the lives of Ionians or creatures of the land. For the first time, Udyr felt at peace with the spirits surrounding him and found comfort in human companionship. His time among the monks taught him to temper his instincts, while his meditations with the ancient temple spirits taught him wisdom. Through them both, Udyr learned to truly embrace his life as the next Spirit Walker. Udyr owed much to the Ionians. It was a debt he was never asked to honor, but one he would ultimately repay many times over. When the armies of Noxus invaded, Udyr did not stand idle as the brutal soldiers oppressed the peaceful Ionians - he had not forgotten how to bare his teeth. Udyr leapt at their armies with all the ferocity of a cornered beast and gave the invaders good reason to fear the wilderness. From the trees, his claws tore the Noxians down in scores; on the river banks, he threw them back like a flood, and in the fields, he consumed them with searing wildfire. Only when the Noxians fled with their tails between their legs did Udyr quell his rage. Peace returned to Ionia, but still Udyr felt something stirring him from his rest. The spirits of the Freljord called out to him, warning of an unnatural evil emerging from the ice. Udyr understood the true threat that the Ice Witch posed to his homeland: she was the herald of a greater darkness that would soon envelop the land. Armed with the potent spirits of the temple, Udyr returned to the Freljord, seeking to defend the natural world from all who would threaten its balance. Through us, nature's will is done. -- Udyr[11] |
Passive (Monkey's Agility): Udyr has four different transformations(called stances in this case). Switching to a different transformation or applying the same transformation he is currently in will give him 10% more attack speed and 5 more movement speed points for a short duration. This effect can be stack up to three times by transforming three quick consecutive times.
Q (Tiger Stance): Activation - Udyr's Attack Speed is increased for a few seconds, and his first basic attack will deal a high amount of damage over 2 seconds. Persistent Effect - Udyr's basic attacks deal extra damage. W (Turtle Stance): Activation - Udyr gains a temporary shield that absorbs damage. Persistent Effect - Udyr gains Life Steal. E (Bear Stance): Activation - Udyr increases Movement Speed for a short duration. Persistent Effect - Udyr's basic attacks stun his target for 1 second. This effect cannot occur on the same target for several seconds. R (Phoenix Stance): Activation - Udyr unleashes pulsing waves of fire, dealing damage to nearby enemies for 5 seconds. Persistent Effect - With the first basic attack and every third attack after, Udyr engulfs enemies in front of him with flames[12] Strategy: Because Udyr is known more for his jungling role, using this passive will help him roam the map more quickly but because going to a different transformation uses mana, make sure to find a way to compensate for the mana usage such as through items or the blue buff that the Golems give. Udyr's Bear Stance will be his main form of surprise attacking enemy champion because of its stunning effect and because of its movement speed boosting effect. His Tiger Stance and Phoenix Stance will be his main forms for dealing the bulk of the damage towards jungle monsters, minions, and enemy champions. His Turtle Stance is used for staying in the jungle longer, allowing him to gain more experience and gold faster than the enemy jungler because its shield effect will block some damage from jungle monsters and the life steal effect will allow him to gain health back for every hit on an attackable object, except for turrets. |
