List of Hong Kong ODI cricketers

Hong Kong played its first ODI against Bangladesh at Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in the 2004 Asia Cup.

A One Day International (ODI) is an international cricket match between two representative teams, each having ODI status, as determined by the International Cricket Council (ICC).^[1] An ODI differs from Test matches in that the number of overs per team is limited, and that each team has only one innings.^[2] Twenty players have represented the Hong Kong cricket team in ODIs from 2004 to 2008.^[3] Thirteen of these twenty players are from the Indian subcontinent, a demographic which contributes to just under 1% of the overall population of Hong Kong.

Hong Kong has never gained ODI status in its own right, but has been accorded ODI status twice on a temporary basis for participation in the Asia Cup, in which the matches played held ODI status.^{[n 1]} Its first ODI came against Bangladesh in the 2004 Asia Cup, with the team playing a further ODI in that competition against Pakistan.^[4] Its next appearances in ODIs came four years later in the 2008 Asia Cup, playing two matches against Pakistan and India,^[4] though struggling against its Test playing opponents and losing heavily in all matches played. One defeat during the tournament included a 256-run loss to India, the fifth largest losing margin of defeat in ODIs.^[5] Hong Kong are yet to achieve temporary ODI status through the World Cricket League, but have qualified for the 2014 World Cup Qualifier,^[6] where progression to the 2015 World Cup would see Hong Kong gain ODI status for the tournament.

Hong Kong played four ODIs,^[4] with three players representing the territory in all its matches in this format: Afzaal Haider, Najeeb Amar and Tabarak Dar. Of those who have appeared, Dar has scored more runs than any other player with 101. Three players have each taken four wickets; among these Ilyas Gul has the best bowling average of 28.25. Three players have acted as wicket-keeper, with Tim Smart and Nasir Hameed wicket-keeping in one match each in 2004 and James Atkinson in two matches in 2008. Two players have captained Hong Kong: Rahul Sharma and Tabarak Dar. Sharma captained the team in its two matches in the 2004 Asia Cup and Dar captained the team in its two matches in the 2008 Asia Cup.^[7]

This list includes all players who have played at least one ODI match and is initially arranged in the order of debut appearance. Where more than one player won their first cap in the same match, those players are initially listed alphabetically at the time of debut.

1. ↑ The Asian Cricket Council allowed the participation of its two leading Associate Members (Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates) of the International Cricket Council (ICC) to take part in the 2004 and 2008 Asia Cup alongside its four Test playing members. The Associate Members were given temporary One Day International (ODI) status for both tournaments, a status the Test playing nations hold permanently. Affording such status meant the matches were played as official ODIs under ICC conditions.^[1]
