List of Governors General of Canada
The following is a list of the governors and governors general of Canada. Though the present day office of the Governor General of Canada came into being only upon Canadian Confederation in 1867, it is generally accepted that the institution is a continuation from the first governorship of New France in 1608.. All Governors General are numbered dating back to the governors of New France; Governors General serving since Confederation are also numbered starting at Confederation.
