List of Adventure Time episodes

Adventure Time is an American animated television series created by Pendleton Ward for Cartoon Network. The series follows the adventures of Finn (voiced by Jeremy Shada), a human boy, and his best friend and adoptive brother Jake (voiced by John DiMaggio), a dog with magical powers to change shape and grow and shrink at will. Finn and Jake live in the post-apocalyptic Land of Ooo. Along the way, they interact with the show's other main characters: Princess Bubblegum (voiced by Hynden Walch), the sovereign of the Candy Kingdom; the Ice King (voiced by Tom Kenny), a demented but largely misunderstood ice wizard; and Marceline the Vampire Queen (voiced by Olivia Olson), a thousand-year old half-demon rock music enthusiast.[1]

The show originally began in 2007 with a pilot,[2] which was later re-aired on the incubator series Random! Cartoons on Nicktoons Network.[3][4] The pilot eventually leaked onto the internet and became a cult hit on YouTube.[5] After Nickelodeon declined to turn the short into a full-fledged show, Cartoon Network purchased the rights, and Adventure Time launched as a series on April 5, 2010.[6][7] The show is currently airing its sixth season. On July 25, 2014, the series was renewed for a seventh season, and on February 18, 2015, Cartoon Network announced a special mini-series that will air as part of season seven.[8] A feature-length film is also in the works. Each episode is at least 11 minutes long, of which 190 have aired. The first four seasons each contain 26 episodes, the fifth contains 52 episodes, and the sixth will contain 42. For the first five and a half seasons, the show aired on Monday nights.[nb 1] However starting with the sixth season episode "Breezy", the show began to shift both its timeslot and its day of airing.[9]

Ever since its debut, Adventure Time has been a ratings success for Cartoon Network. As of March 2012, the show is viewed by approximately 2 to 3 million viewers per week.[3] The show has received positive reviews from critics and has developed a strong following among teenagers and adults, many of whom are attracted due to the series' animation, stories, and characters.[10] Adventure Time has won two Annie Awards among fourteen nominations,[11][12] two Primetime Emmy Awards among seven nominations,[13][14][15][16] two British Academy Children's Awards,[17][18] a Motion Picture Sound Editors Award,[19] a Pixel Award,[20] and a Peabody Award.[21] The series has also been nominated for three Critics' Choice Television Awards,[22][23] two Annecy Festival Awards,[24][25] and a Sundance Film Festival Award,[26] among others. Several compilation DVDs have been released. In addition, the first through fourth seasons have been released on DVD and Blu-ray, and a fifth season set is scheduled to be released on July 14, 2015. Adventure Time is produced by Cartoon Network Studios and Frederator Studios. The series is rated TV-PG.[27]

Series overview

Each Adventure Time episode is about eleven minutes in length; pairs of episodes are often telecast in order to fill a half hour program time slot.[28] The series has completed four seasons of 26 episodes each and a fifth consisting of 52 episodes. It is currently in its sixth season. The series previewed on March 11, 2010, and the first season officially premiered on April 5, 2010.[29] The season concluded on September 27 of the same year.[30] The second season premiered several weeks later, on October 11,[31] and it concluded on May 2, 2011.[32] The third season premiered on July 11, 2011, finishing its run on February 13, 2012.[33][34] Its fourth season ran from April 2, 2012 through October 22, 2012.[35][36] The show's fifth season ran from November 12, 2012 to March 17, 2014, a span of almost one and a half years.[37] The series began airing its sixth season on April 21, 2014.[38] On July 25, 2014, the series was renewed for a seventh season.[39] On February 19, 2015, Deadline announced that during the seventh season, an Adventure Time miniseries would air,[8][40] and later that month, the site reported that a feature film version of the cartoon was being developed by Chris McKay and Roy Lee.[41]

Notes

  1. ↑ An exception to this is the third season episode "Thank You" which aired on a Wednesday as a holiday special.
  2. ↑ The pilot initially was aired as a stand-alone short on Nicktoons Network January 11, 2007,[2][45] before it was re-aired as part of the Nicktoons' series Random! Cartoons on December 7, 2008.[4] As such, the original, stand-alone 2007 air date is included here.
  3. ↑ Larry Leichliter served as director for the first part of the season, before the title was phased out in favor of "Supervising Director" and "Art Director".[119] For all episodes in season five, Nick Jennings served as the art director. This column will therefore list the different supervising directors.
  4. ↑ On the credit screen for the episode "Davey", it is stated that the episode was storyboarded by Jesse Moynihan and Skyler Page. However, this is erroneous, and the episode was actually storyboarded by Page and Somvilay Xayaphone, according to Adam Muto.[127]
  5. ↑ "Evergreen" first aired on November 10, 2014 on Cartoon Network in Latin America,[174] "Astral Plane" was first uploaded on December 24, 2014 onto Cartoon Network's official Brazilian website.[175] "The Visitor" first aired on February 3, 2015 on Cartoon Network in South Korea.[176] "Friends Forever" and "Jermaine" both first aired on Cartoon Network in Australia and New Zealand on March 18, 2015 and March 16, 2015 respectively. Both episodes also aired on Cartoon Network in Latin America on April 6, 2015 and April 13, 2015 respectively.[177]
  6. ↑ This DVD is not a complete season two release, as it omits "It Came from the Nightosphere", "Death in Bloom", "Mortal Folly", and "Mortal Recoil".[233]
