Lismore Music Festival

Lismore Musical Festival - Lismore Castle Gardens, Co. Waterford

Lismore Music Festival is an annual classical music and opera festival held in Lismore in the Republic of Ireland. It is not-for-profit organisation trading under Lismore Music Festival Ltd and registered as a company limited by guarantee with no share capital. The Festival was founded in 2010 by Jennifer O'Connell and Swiss Artistic Director Dieter Kaegi.

History

The event consists in three opera nights performed in Lismore Castle stable yard.[1] Concerts and recitals are also staged in Lismore and in historic homes located along the banks of the Blackwater River downstream to the parish of Cappoquin. The historic venues include Salterbridge House, Cappoquin House, Tourin House and Lismore Cathedral.

Education programme

In 2012, Irish President Michael D. Higgins inaugurated Lismore Music Festival's Annual School's Access Programme.[2] "I hope that it will empower you to believe that it is possible to enjoy all aspects of music and drama and the opportunity it affords to express creativity", President Higgins told the 200 children from Dungarvan, Cappoquin, Fermoy, Lismore, Ring and Whitechurch schools attending the dress rehearsal of The Barber of Seville composed by Gioachino Rossini.

Honorary Patrons

In 2010, Dr. Veronica Dunne[3] became honorary patron of Lismore Music Festival.
