Linden Court

Linden Court is an apartment complex in Jackson Heights, New York. It is considered one of the first garden apartments in the United States. The complex was designed and built in 1919 by architect Andrew J. Thomas under the commission of the Queensboro Corporation. Linden Court is within the Jackson Heights Historical Preservation Area, and is a protected landmark. The complex is located in between 84th and 85th streets and 37th and Roosevelt Avenues.[1]

Design

Linden Court is composed of a series of 10 separated U-shaped buildings with 5 facing 84th street and 5 facing 85th street. The two sets of buildings are separated by a gated garden with two pathways. The garden features many Linden trees, from which the complex derives its name. Linden Court was the first development to include parking spaces, with single-story garages accessed via narrow driveways.[2] Linden Court was built to be as close to the elevated 7 Train, built in 1917, as possible.

Linden Court was designed by Thomas to include light and green spaces into tenement living.
