Lilabari Airport (IATA: IXI, ICAO: VELR) is located in the Lakhimpur district in the state of Assam, India. It also serves the state of Arunachal Pradesh.

History

The Lilabari airport project in Lakhimpur began after hectic campaigning and lobbying by local Member of Parliament (MP), Dr Ranee Narah in 1999-2003.[1] Construction of the airport had finished by 2003, and the terminal was inaugurated by then Union Civil Aviation Minister Syed Shahnawaz Hussain.[1][2]

At present, the Lilabari airport in Lakhimpur is connected to Kolkata and Guwahati by an Air India Regional flight on Sundays and Fridays. Recently there has been plans made for expanding the service to five flights a week.[1]
