Life on the Road

Life on the Road, is a film produced by BBC Films, and will star Ricky Gervais as David Brent: first seen in The Office TV series.[1]This feature length film will be done mockumentary style, a film crew shadows Brent as he travels up and down the country living his dream of being a rock star.[2]

Plot

15 years have passed, Gervais explains, Brent, a sales rep after leaving Wernham Hogg, is on his music tour. He believes he will be filmed like Martin Scorsese did with The Rolling Stones—although it's actually a 'where are they now' type documentary. He takes a holiday to tour with his band Foregone Conclusion and has to use his pension to fund part of his rock concert, as the ticket sales are less than he can afford to pay his band members.[3] Doc Brown a rap artist, who sung with Brent on the music video Equality Street, will accompany Brent and his band.[4]

Gervais revealed that he has finished writing songs for Brent's tour and that they will be all new tracks.[5][6]He has made it clear that this is not The Office movie.[7]

We did ‘The Office’ perfectly and for all those people to still be there — that would be ridiculous. Imagine going back to an office you worked in 20 years ago and they’re still there, they’re just a little bit older?

Gervais blogs about his film making process at his website. As of January 3, 2015 he has finished his first draft of The Life on the Road script.[9]

I'll be filming David's Rock and Roll extravaganza all over the Thames Valley and Cardiff, which according to Brent makes it an international tour. Big Time!

Besides acting, Gervais also produces and directs the movie. Filming begins in 2015.[10]
