History

Records of educational establishments in Lhanbryde exist as far back as 1742, when the school was described as being 'in bad repair' so may have existed for many years prior to that. The records describe a Parish school in 'Langbride' with 30 scholars, 16 studying Latin and 14 studying English.

Later records from the 19th century show a Parochial school with 61 pupils and a second day school with 23 pupils. The subjects being studied were listed as English, English Grammar, Writing, Arithmetic, Mathematics and Book-keeping, along with Latin, Greek and French languages.

The modern Primary school dates back to the 1960s, when the previous school building was constructed. This comprised a two-storey block with a large hall, as well as an adjacent canteen building.[2]
