Letters to St. Nicolas (Polish: Listy do M.) is a 2011 Polish romantic comedy film, directed by a Slovenian director Mitja Okorn. The film was shot in Warsaw from 27 January to March 2011.[3] The action takes place during Christmas, when few adults discovers the love of his life. The ensemble cast is composed of Polish actors. Movie poster and plot refers to the British romantic comedy of 2003 - Love Actually.[4]

Plot

For years, women have been pouring tears along with Bridget Jones, falling for Hugh Grant and laughing at him, even when the perspective of a funeral appeared. Now for the movie "Letters to St. Nicolas" where somewhat lost characters discover that what happened to them is love! On this special day of the year, five women and five men are finding out that there is no escape before love and Christmas.[1]

Box office performance

On the opening weekend the movie drew nearly 400 thousand people (more specifically, 367,447 Poles sat in cinemas). This is the third best opening of the Polish film score in the last 20 years.[5][6] In total, the first three weeks film grossed $6,175,026, and watched him over a million people.[2][7]


Maciej Dejczer is shooting a sequel to Letters To Santa. The shoot in Warsaw launched on 25 February 2015 and will finish in April. Branded as the Polish Love Actually, Letters To Santa 2 will continue the genre of romantic comedy with a Christmas theme.[8]

Critical reviews

Polish film critics and movie audiences positively received.[9] The film "Letters to St. Nicolas", is: "Pearl" (according to Filmtok),[10] "a romantic comedy with a genuine" (according to Rzeczpospolita),[11] "funny, touching and unpretentious"(by Metro), "the best Polish production for decades" (by Wprost),[12] which "restores faith in the fact that in our country good cinema entertainment is created (by TVP Info), where the jokes are "undeniably successful" (according to Gazeta Wyborcza).[7] The film also liked Duncan Kenworthy, producer of "Notting Hill" and "Love Actually", who said:

The movie is fantastic. And as the audience I think it is both funny and poignant. It's made me feel a sudden craving for Christmas.[13]

Production

Winter weather was not conducive to the production of "Letters to St. Nicolas". At a movie theater and entered the magic special machines for the production of artificial snow.[14] The team "Letters to St. Nicolas" Thus began in Kampinos forest snowstorms and streets of Warsaw.[3] The challenge for the stage crew were executed in a popular mall. The film crew could carry out only filming at night, and shook the stage, which in the film happen in busy, Christmas Day. On a film set there was a festive atmosphere and confusion.[14] Katarzyna Bujakiewicz as a snowflake sang "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town", Tomak Karolak and Roma Gąsiorowska in beautiful costumes Christmas Santa Claus and entertained over 150 children and 300 adults extras who played Varsovians offered last Christmas shopping.[3][14]
