Lestes rectangularis is a species of damselfly commonly called the slender spreadwing.
Adults are about 50 millimetres (2.0 in) long, with a wingspan of 30 millimetres (1.2 in). Its wings are translucent in contrast to a long, slender abdomen. The eyes are blue and there is a blue shoulder stripe. L. rectangularis can be distinguished from other spreadwings by the lack of a blue tip on its abdomen. It lives near ponds, marshes, and bogs, where it flies during the summer months.
