Lester Shum
Lester Shum (Chinese: 岑敖暉) is a university student in Hong Kong better known as a social activist. He is the incumbent deputy secretary-general of the Hong Kong Federation of Students since April 2014 and a leader of the 2014 pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong, other core members include Alex Chow, Yvonne Leung, Eason Chung and Nathan Law.
Shum completed his secondary education at Sheng Kung Hui Tsang Shiu Tim Secondary School before entering The Chinese University of Hong Kong, majoring initially in Information Engineering but later switched to Government and Public Administration. He assumed the position of Vice-President (External) of the Student Union of the CUHK in Session 2013-2014, and became the deputy secretary-general of the Hong Kong Federation of Students afterwards.
He was detained by the police in October 2014 due to the arrest during a sit-in in July. His political awakening came from an internet forum called Hong Kong Golden Forum. [1]
