Career history

Samuel Lester Snead (born in Eufaula, Alabama) is the general manager of the St. Louis Rams of the National Football League. Snead was an all-state offensive guard at Eufaula High School, and switched to tight end at Troy State and Auburn. After college, Snead considered attending medical school, but after serving as a graduate assistant at Auburn, became a scout.[1]

Professional career

In 1995, Snead was hired by the expansion Jacksonville Jaguars as a pro scout, where he worked until 1997, when he was hired by the Atlanta Falcons to the same position, but also served as the director of pro/player personnel.[2] On February 10, 2012, the Rams announced that they had hired Snead as their new general manager.[3]

On March 12, 2012 the Rams agreed to a trade with the Washington Redskins that would exchange their #2 overall selection in the 2012 NFL Draft for the Redskins 6th and 39th overall selections. The Rams also received their 1st round selections for the 2013 and 2014 seasons. In the draft the Rams traded the 6th pick for the Dallas Cowboys 14th pick and selected Michael Brockers. They used the 39th pick to select Janoris Jenkins. Snead's first draft earned A's from SB Nation[4] and CBS Sports.[5]

On May 10, 2014 in the seventh round of the NFL Draft and with the 249th overall pick, Snead and the Rams made history by drafting Michael Sam, the first openly gay player to enter the NFL draft.[6]
