Leon Williams (born July 30, 1983) is a former American football linebacker. He was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the fourth round of the 2006 NFL Draft. He played college football at the University of Miami.

Williams also played for the New York Sentinels and Dallas Cowboys.

College career

CAREER: Butkus Award finalist in 2004 was considered the heir apparent to Jonathan Vilma for the job at middle linebacker...Outstanding special teams player in 2002 and 2003 has been considered a potential star of the UM linebacker corps... making 92 tackles (45 solo), 2.5 sacks and one fumble recovery...Liberal arts major.

2004 (JUNIOR): Played in 10 games, starting five times, in an injury-marred season...Totaled 56 tackles (20 solo), eight tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one pass breakup...Started at middle linebacker in the season opener vs. Florida State and made 3 tackles before suffering a hand injury...Missed the next two games (Louisiana Tech and Houston)...Returned to action at Georgie Tech and did not start, but played and had a huge game. Recorded 9 tackles, 1 tackle for loss and 1.5 sacks. 2001 (REDSHIRT): Sat out the 2001 season with a redshirt and played on the Hurricanes' scout team.

Professional career

Cleveland Browns

Williams was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the fourth round (110th overall) in the 2006 NFL Draft. In his rookie season he played in 16 regular season games and recorded 37 tackles. He made his NFL debut at the Cincinnati Bengals on 17 September. His 17 tackles versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on 24 December were a career-high. In his second season with the Browns, he again played in 16 games and this time recorded 90 tackles.

The Browns waived him on September 15, 2009.

Dallas Cowboys

After spending the 2009 season with the New York Sentinels, Williams signed a future contract with the Dallas Cowboys on January 12, 2010. He was placed on injured reserve on December 31, 2010.

Kansas City Chiefs

Williams signed with the Kansas City Chiefs on May 16, 2012.[1] He was cut prior to the 2012 season but was again signed by the team in December 2012 following Jovan Belcher's suicide.[2]
