Amateur Boxing Career
Thompson is a Southpaw that fights with a counterpuncher style who started boxing to lose weight in 2005. A few months later he moved to Port St. Lucie, Florida where he continued to box for Fort Pierce P.A.L. and win 18 consecutive matches in the super heavyweight class.

He qualified for the Olympic Trials, where he lost to Kimdo Bethel 9-10, stopped Josh Parson 1:17 into the first round, and eventually lost a rematch with Andrew Shepherd (who he had beaten at the U.S Men's) 8-8 draw (raw score 17-18).
He exploited Hunter's absence and narrowly (12:12, countback win) beat Tor Hamer (Hamer's only amateur loss) in March 2008 to become US champion.
At the 2009 Golden Gloves he won this tournament, too, besting Bryant Jennings in the final. In May 2010 he decisioned Randall Blankenship at the Regional Finals in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

As a result of the one year suspension Thompson changed careers, and became a personal trainer at Ringside's gym at 103rd and Lackman in Lenexa Kansas.
He has come back to boxing after changing his name to Cam F. Awesome. He has goals of making the 2016 Olympic boxing team.
