Lego Ninjago is a current line of sets produced by Lego. It uses elements from the previous Ninja series. There are several changes from the previous series. These include the removal of the Shogun and Bandits, and the introduction of the Skulkin, Serpentine, Stone Army, Nindroid Army, Anacondrai Cultists and Ghost Warriors. Also noticeable is the inclusion of advanced vehicles which imply a more modern setting than the feudal Japan setting of the previous incarnation.

Dragons have recently become a significant part of Ninjago. An Elemental Dragon was introduced for every Ninja. However, they soon migrated to the Spirit Coves and combined into one four-headed Ultra Dragon. This dragon was soon used by the Green Ninja. Ninjago later introduced the Golden Dragon, an ancient fighting animal given to Lloyd, passed down by the First Spinjitzu Master; the MechDragon, a cybernetic creature built by the Digital Overlord to capture the Golden Ninja; the Titanium Dragon, an elemental dragon belonging to the Titanium Ninja, Zane; and the Morro Dragon, a dragon belonging to Morro. Every Dragon (except for the MechDragon, Titanium Dragon, and Morro Dragon) head launches a Dragon Sphere, which is used in battle to knock down enemies.

Ninjago started off in 2011 with a pilot film and a wave of LEGO sets, focusing on the 4 Ninja's battles with the Skulkin army. After its success, a TV series was made in 2012 featuring Season 1: Rise of the Snakes with another wave of sets and a more modern twist; featuring cities, mechs, and vehicles. Season 2: Rise of the Spinjitzu Master and more sets were made featuring the final battle between Lloyd and the Overlord. Although, this was intended to be the end of Ninjago, it continued in 2014 with Season 3: Rebooted as well as the sets, featuring a futuristic plot and the Ninja's battle with the Digital Overlord and his robotic Nindroid Army. Season 4: The Tournament of Elements aired in 2015 was about the Ninja's battles with the Anacondrai Cultists on Master Chen's island and ended on April 3, 2015. Season 5: Rise of the Ghost Warriors where the Ninja battle the Cursed Ghosts from the Cursed Realm is confirmed to premiere in summer 2015.

Ninjago will have a movie in 2016 [1] and a sequel in 2018.[2]

Prologue

The theme centers on the world of Ninjago, home to both modern cities and ancient villages. Ninjago was created by the First Master of Spinjitzu using the Four Golden Weapons: the Sword of Fire, the Nunchucks of Lightning, the Scythe of Quakes, and the Shurikens of Ice. Each with great power that no mortal possess all four at once, except for the Master, himself. He had two sons, Garmadon and Wu, who guarded the weapons and banished enemies into the Underworld, including the four-armed beast Samukai. After the First Spinjitzu Master passed away, his evil son Garmadon wanted to use the Golden Weapons to recreate Ninjago in his own evil image. However, younger brother Wu and Garmadon fought, and Garmadon was banished to the Skulkins' Underworld, vowing to return one day. Wu then hid the weapons in different parts of Ninjago and gave the map to his friend. However, peace didn't last for long, as Lord Garmadon defeated Samukai, the former general, and took control over the Skulkin Army.

Years later, Kai and Nya ran the blacksmith shop, Four Weapons in Ignacia. One day, they met Wu who told Kai he had "all tools for a samurai but nothing for a ninja!" After he left, the shop was attacked by Samukai and the Skulkin Army. The Skulkin stole a map hidden in the shop and kidnapped Kai's sister, Nya. Sensei Wu then told him about the history of Ninjago; how Garmadon wanted the Golden Weapons for himself and how Kai was the son of Wu's friend. In order to get Nya back, Kai went to Sensei Wu's monastery and trained to become a Ninja. There he met Wu's other three Ninja Jay, Cole, and Zane. Sensei Wu gave them elemental Ninja outfits and informed them that they each represented an element. Kai Master of Fire, Cole Master of Earth, Jay Master of Lightning, and Zane Master of Ice. He then told them the Lord Garmadon had returned and is bent on taking the Golden Weapons to recreate Ninjago in his own image. Using their Ninja skills, the Ninja sneaked into the Caves of Despair, home of the Scythe of Quakes, and took the weapon as well as the map the skeletons stole. With the map, they ventured to the Frozen Wasteland and Floating Ruins where they retrieved the Shurikens of Ice and Nunchucks of Lightning. After resting in the Forest of Tranquility, Kai is led to a trap in the Fire Temple by Garmadon. There Lord Garmadon in shadow form tells Kai he must pull out the Sword of Fire or he will burn Nya. Kai pulls out the Sword of Fire and rescues Nya. He then tells Shadow Garmadon that he cannot hurt his because he is only a shadow. Garmadon replies by saying, "Even shadows have their uses!" and making Kai be attacked by his own shadow. However, Sensei Wu arrives and rescues Kai. He takes the Sword of Fire and takes a route to the Underworld. In the meantime, Samukai and his troops steal the Ninja's remaining Golden Weapons. The Skulkin escape to the Underworld, but the Ninja realize they can also get there with their Elemental Dragons. After making it to the Underworld, they use the Tornado of Creation to create a ferris wheel to trap the skeleton and make it into Lord Garmadon's room. There, the watch Sensei Wu with the Sword of Fire fighting Samukai with the three other Golden Weapons. Sensei Wu loses the battle and Samukai obtains all four Golden Weapons. However, he goes against Garmadon and plans to use them to become the ruler, again. Lord Garmadon smiles as he watches Samukai explode, since no mortal can handle the power of all four weapons. The weapons open a portal through a different world, which Lord Garmadon enters, so he will one day have enough power to handle all four weapon. After Garmadon disappears, the Ninja take the Golden Weapons and continue training with Sensei Wu, knowing one day he will return.[3][4]

The Ninja hanged him on a sign and went returned to the monastery. During the hurry, Kai had accidentally picked up a scroll belonging to Sensei Wu. It said that "One Ninja will rise above the others and become the Green Ninja. The Green Ninja will defeat the Dark Lord." The Ninja had a sparring tournament to see who would become the Green Ninja. However, they almost burned down the monastery. Wu informed them that they should first unlock their full potential and none of them have what it takes to become the Green Ninja. He told him to build state of the art war machines for their army, but the doctor refused. He locked him in the prison and told him if he doesn't build them, he will never see Zane, again. Meanwhile, the Overlord presents his super weapon to Lord Garmadon; the Garmatron.

They drive the Garmatron to the island's beach, where they shoot dark matter missiles to Ninjago. After the villain's victory, the Overlord betrays Lord Garmadon and possess his body. They enter the city, which has now turned into night and all the inhabitants, except Darreth have become evil. The Overlord has used this evil to turn into his original form, a large dragon. The Garmatron has also converted into a fortress. The Ninja fight the Stone Warriors, but Evil Nya destroys Lloyd's mech. The Ninja are about to lose, until Darreth arrives and takes the Helmet of Shadows, convincing to warriors to become good and fight the Overlord. However, Nya shots down the entire army. The Ninja try making it to the top of the Garmatron tower, but only Lloyd goes up safely. There, he and the Overlord start the Final Battle. The Overlord spits a massive amount of Dark Matter from his mouth, but Lloyd shields himself using his Golden Power. After doing this, Lloyd unlocks his true potential, becoming the Golden Ninja. The summons the Golden Dragon and tackles the Overlord. However, the Overlord brings complete darkness to Ninjago, turning the size of the entire city and swallowing the Golden Dragon. However, Lloyd's Golden Power is too strong as it defeats the Overlord, bringing peace upon Ninjago. The Ninja celebrate and Lord Garmadon also turns back into his good human form. Lloyd and his family walk away, as the Ninja vow to Sensei Wu they will always be Ninja and they'll be ready for any threat.

Though Ninjago was intended to be discontinued in 2014 and replaced by a new theme titled Legends of Chima, an official on the LEGO website has stated that both themes will exist at the same time.[17]

Rebooted

The third season of Ninjago includes a futuristic plot about the Ninja's battles with the Digital Overlord who plans on becoming the legendary Golden Master and taking over New Ninjago City.

The Surge: Ever since the Ninja defeated the Overlord and his Stone Army, much of Ninjago City was in ruins. However, inventor Cyrus Borg encourages the people to rebuild their city. Ninjago City becomes New Ninjago City, a futuristic metropolis; and Cyrus Borg builds the massive, 100-story Borg Industries on exact same place the Garmatron was destroyed. While Lloyd tours Ninjago celebrating his victory, the original four ninja—Kai, Cole, Jay, and Zane—have become teachers in Sensei Wu’s Academy. Besides being bored in class all day, Kai and the rest of the ninjas dream of the days when they fought the forces of evil, but in the updated and technologically advanced world of Ninjago, there is no need for ninja any longer.

While Borg was working on a video game called the Digiverse, the Overlord reappeared as a computer virus, known as the Digital Overlord. Soon, the famed inventor Cyrus Borg invites the four Ninja to Borg Industries for a "field trip." At Borg Industries, Zane meets P.I.X.A.L., whom he starts to have feelings for. When the Ninja made it to Borg's office, he gives them a golden statue of himself. However, he tells Kai to protect "them" with his life and that "he's" listening. While the Ninja were carrying the statue in the elevator, it breaks. Inside, are new outfits and "Techno Blades." The Ninja were confused by the Techno Blades at first, but discover it can hack technologies. Zane hacks a hovercopter, making it the NinjaCopter; Kai hacks a fighter jet, making it the Kai Fighter; Jay hacks a super-hybrid assault vechicle, making it the Lightning Off-roader; and Cole hacks a security mech, making it the Earth Mech When Overlord discovers that Ninja found the Techno blades, he corrupts New Ninjago City with the Overlord virus. He takes control of Cyrus Borg, by blowtorching cybernetic parts to him and possessing his MechChair. He plans to use the Golden Ninja's power to escape the Digiverse and become physical. Ninja escape with the Golden Ninja and the Techno Blades. However, Sensei Wu gets captured.

The Art of the Silent Fist: P.I.X.A.L, corrupted by the Overlord Virus, creates the army of evil Nindroids led by General Cryptor. The Overlord commands the Nindroids to find the Ninja and accessed Sensei Wu's memory. He discovered the Ninja were hiding in Sensei Garmadon's monastery. Meanwhile, the Ninja visit the monastery, where Sensei Garmadon teaches them the art of the silent fist. P.I.X.A.L attempts to steal the Techno Blades, but Zane uses his Techno Blade to hack her, freeing her from the virus. She tells the Ninja that the Techno Blades have the ability to wipe away the Overlord for good. However, she also informed them that Nindroids will attack. After escaping the Nindroids the Ninja decide it's wiser to split up. Lloyd and his father escape from the Ninja, while the Ninja hide in a circus car. The Nindroids search the car, but the Ninja hid in a magic trick box. They planned to go the power substation to turn off all the power in Ninjago. They succeed doing so. However, P.I.X.A.L. gets powered down, too.

Blackout: A while later, a "stranger" steals the hard-drive containing Digital Overlord. Using Electro-Cobrai to reawaken him, they team up and plan to use their power against the Ninja. He also turns Sensei Wu into Tech Wu, an evil cyborg. While the Ninja stay in Ed & Edna's junkyard, Zane uses half of his power-source to revive P.I.X.A.L. It is also revealed that Nya has a crush on Cole, which leads up to a huge argument between Cole and Jay. Then, Tech Wu arrives and uses Electro-Cobrai to repower the Nindroids. However, Zane loses his Spinjitzu ability due to losing half of his heart. He can only use it when he joins with P.I.X.A.L. After defeating the Nindroids, Tech Wu retreates with the Stranger. The Ninja find a white scale, believing the Stranger is a Serpentine. Meanwhile, Lloyd and Sensei Garmadon pass through the mountains. Garmadon teaches Lloyd the importance of balance as well as how to move mountain.

The Curse of the Golden Master: The return to New Ninjago City on a solar-powered hovercopter, only to find out the city is dead. However, a gang of salvages yelled at the Ninja, that all outsiders must answer to the Postman. The Postman yelled, "Return to sender!" As the Ninja were confused, Cyrus Borg came and explained that the citizens of the city were bored and started using their imagination. He also told them that his hard-drive had been stolen. The Ninja decided to visit the Serpentine to check for the Stranger. Meanwhile, Cyrus Borg used P.I.X.A.L.'s power to repower his computers. When the Ninja made it to the tomb, they saw Skales and searched his bag; only to find he had groceries and the latest edition of Ninjago Times. It was also shown he had a wife, Selma, and son, Skales Junior. Skales told the Ninja that the Serpentine had changed their ways, and are more concerned about the next generation. There, they learn about the Curse of the Golden Master, a prophecy stating that when one will have equal powers to the First Spinjitzu Master, he will terrorize Ninjago and will not stop until every man, woman, and serpent are inslaved under his rule.

Meanwhile, Garmadon and Lloyd travel to Hiroshy's Laborynth, but are attacked by the Nindroids. Garmadon and Tech Wu battle, but Garmadon loses. While Lloyd escapes on his motorcycle, he gets captured by the Stranger, who is revealed as Pythor having survived being eaten by the Great Devourer but his skin got bleached white. Lloyd is then taken prison in the MechDragon and Garmadon is thrown in the ocean.

Enter the Digiverse: The Ninja meet Cyrus Borg and enter the Digiverse, where they can reboot the system and destroy the Overlord. The Ninja do so, and New Ninjago City is saved. Wu also turns good again and Lloyd escapes to a village. However, the Overlord had completed part of his body in the process, allowing him to exist in a 90% complete body.

Codename: Arcturus: With the Overlord defeated and Ninjago saved, the Ninja learn that Pythor and the Nindroids are planning on "Project: Arcturus". Lloyd gives up his Golden Power in the Temple of Light, as the Golden Power too big of a responsibility for him to handle, and gives the Ninja their Elemental Powers back. Kai is to spy on Pythor and General Cryptor to find out what the project is. However, Kai gets excited after getting the Prototype X-1, and attacks them. He learns that the Overlord is still alive but gets captured. Meanwhile, Zane and Sensei Garmadon assume that the Overlord wants to obtain the Golden Weapons in space, so he can become the Golden Master. The Ninja go to Ouroborus, where the Ninja discover Arcturus is a rocket built by the OverBorg, Cyrus Borg turned evil again, and blast off into space.

The Void: The Ninja blast off to space with the Nindroids. The Nindroids land on a comet and find the Golden Weapons, now combined into a golden ball. The Ninja chase them and steal General Cryptor's key to Arcturus. However, the Ninja realize that the shuttle has now been eaten by metal-eating flies and are stranded on the comet as General Cryptor and the Nindroids blast away with the weapons. Meanwhile, Pythor, the OverBorg, and the Overlord arrive at Borg Industries, which they take over. However, Garmadon, Wu, Nya, and P.I.X.A.L. escape to Garmadon's monastery.

The Titanium Ninja: The Ninja build a rocket out of the remains of Arcturus and return to Ninjago. There, they see that the Overlord has become the Golden Master and is terrorizing New Ninjago City. He has also constructed a Golden Armor from the Golden Weapons, making anyone who touches him die. The Ninja escape to the Temple of Fortitude, where they use a force-field to block the Overlord and meet the others. Cyrus Borg tells the Ninja he has a weapon that can defeat the Overlord, a shrinking pill. The Ninja wear armored robes to protect themselves from the Golden Master and have the Senseis close enough to throw it in the Overlord's mouth. They do so, but Pythor gets in the way and it gets in his mouth, turning the Anacondrai general into a small helpless being. The Overlord then captures the Ninja with his Golden Powers, but Zane sacrifices himself to the Golden Master, saving the Ninja. He uses his ice powers to destroy the Golden Master once and for all, but dies in the process. There, the Ninja have a funeral for Zane where Cyrus Borg learns humanity is more important than technology and dubs Zane "The Titanium Ninja". Meanwhile, P.I.X.A.L. is in Borg Industries, depressed. However, the computers start to show Zane's moments with P.I.X.A.L. on the screens. P.I.X.A.L. rushes into the factory line, where Zane says, "Are we compatible now?"

The Tournament of Elements

The fourth season of Ninjago centers on a less technological plot about the Ninja trying to win Zane back in Master Chen's Tournament of Elements, as well as battling his group of Anacondrai following warriors. New Ninjago City also appears to be more technologically balanced, having both modern and futuristic architecture, and removing hovering objects such as hover-cars, hover-bridges, and hover-signs.

The Invitation: The Ninja team is fractured after the loss of Zane. However, the Ninja soon get the message that Zane is still alive have to compete in Master Chen's Tournament of Elements if they want to see him again. The Ninja are supposed to keep the tournament secret, but Sensei Garmadon talks to Lloyd and he asks Garmadon if other people have elemental powers like the ninja. While boarding on Chen's ship, they see the other contestants are descendants of the Elemental Masters, guardians of the First Spinjitzu Master, and learn they are not the only ones with elemental power. The Elemental Masters include Skylor, Master of Amber; Karloff, Master of Metal; Griffin Turner, Master of Speed; Invizable, Master of Light; Toxikita, Master of Poison; Ash, Master of Smoke; Bolobo, Master of Nature; Gravis, Master of Gravity; Jacob, Master of Sound; Camille, Master of Form; Shadow, the Master of Shadow; and Neuro, Master of the Mind. Soon, Kai starts to have feelings for Skylor as well as rivalry with Karlof.

Only One Can Remain: The Ninja arrive to Master Chen's island where Garmadon tells them Chen was once his sensei who taught him evil things. He also claims he was a traitor during the Serpentine wars who joined the snakes. After losing, he was to remain on the island forever. They go to Master Chen's monastery, where he tells the contestants they are in a competition where "only one can remain". For the first round, they have to obtain Jade Blades(which allow you to stay in the tournament). There is enough for everyone but one person. The Ninja and the contestants all obtain Jade Blades, except for Karlof, who is then out. The Ninja plan to find Zane, so they take a secret passageway under Kai's room. Kai and the Ninja spy into Skylor's room, and see she can use the power of fire. They also visit Master Chen disguised as cultists. They realize that Master Chen did not host the tournament for fun, but to drain all the powers of the elemental fighters, as he had drained Zane's and Karlof's. The Ninja's chocolate tattoos then melt, but they escape. However, Clouse, Chen's second in command has his pet snake chase the intruders and discover their identity.

Versus: Zane has lost his memory, but regains it after meeting P.I.X.A.L. in the other room. He discovers P.I.X.A.L. has been scraped but he puts her hard-drive inside himself, becoming compatible with her. However, he gets captured again. Meanwhile, Gravis has to fight Griffin, Bolobo has to fight Neuro, and Kai has to fight Ash. The winners Griffin, Neuro, and Kai advance in the tournament. Clouse decides to get revenge on the Ninja for intruding Chen's room and has Jay and Cole fight each other. The Ninja try to get help from Neuro, but he fails to break into Chen's room. Cole and Jay eventually have to fight each other. However, Cole gives up the Jade Blade to Jay and gets out of the tournament.

Ninja Roll: Kai learns Skylor has the power of adaption. Also, Elemental Masters must compete in a roller skating competition. There will be the teams: Lloyd's team with the Ninja and the Master of Disguise with the other Masters. After many laps, the Master of Disguise crosses the finish line first. However, she was missing her Jade Blade, leaving Lloyd as the victor. Meanwhile, Cole, Karlof, and the other masters are forced to work for Master Chen's noodle factory. However, Cole sees Zane's prison, promising to release him. Nya also uses her new car to locate the Ninja on Chen's island. Also, the Master of Sound is re-captured after trying to escape the noodle factory.

A Spy for a Spy: The Ninja form an alliance with the Elemental Masters and convince them about Chen's plan. Meanwhile, Nya goes to Chen's palace, disguised as a Kabuki, and steals Clouse's spell that turns Chen's followers into Anacondrai. Cole and Zane also manage to break out of Master Chen's Noodle Factory.

Spellbound: After Nya stole Clouse's spell, Chen commands that whoever finds Nya wins the tournament. Lloyd also learns how to use a green version of the Golden Dragon with his power. Meanwhile, Lloyd and Garmadon stumble upon the place where a great battle between the Elemental Masters and the Anacondrai took place. Garmadon tells Lloyd the story of how Master Chen and the Anacondrai conquered Ninjago, until the sacred flute was invented and was used to defeat the snakes. The Anacondrai were then zapped into a portal, never returning to Ninjago. Meanwhile, Chen captures all the Elemental Masters, Nya, and Dareth; except for Garmadon and Lloyd. Skylor is also revealed to be Chen's daughter.

The Forgotten Element: Master Chen drains out all the Master's powers but Lloyd. He has Kai betray Lloyd and trick him into battling Chen. Chen uses the Elemental Powers and wins, obtaining Lloyd's element. However, Kai and Skylor take Chen's staff and destroy it, releasing the powers back to the Elemental Masters, who have escaped from the Noodle Factory.

The Day of the Dragon: Although all the Masters have escaped, Clouse discovers that Skylor's adaption ability can still be used to gain all the Elemental Powers. While Skylor and Kai attempted to escape from Chen, but were captured by Kapau and Chope. Clouse tries to banish Garmadon in the forgotten realm, but Garmadon escapes and Clouse gets himself stuck inside the portal. Zane, Kai, Jay, Cole, Karlof, Griffin, Shadow, Toxikita, Invizable, Gravis, Cleo, Neuro, Bolobo, Jacob all learn to that they have a stronger power in them a dragon power and all the Elemental masters follow Chen and his army to Ninjago city.

The Greatest Fear of All: Master Chen uses the spell, turning his men, himself, Skylor, and Garmadon into Anacondrai, the strongest warriors ever to do battle. With the Anacondrai on the loose, the Ninja visit Ninjago's worst jail. There they meet the shrunken Pythor and ask for his assistance. Coincidentally, Master Chen has learned the spell has temporary effects and only an essence of a true Anacondrai can make it permanent; capturing Pythor.

The Corridor of Elders: The ninja and fighters discover there's a strategic location called the Corridor of Elders where they can make their last stand against Chen's Anacondrai army...but even with the new Destiny Bounty, their forces still aren't strong enough. Fortunately, Pythor escapes Chen's clutches and discovers there is one spell in the Book of Magic that could stop the war, but at a serious cost. Garmadon has to banish himself to the forgotten realm in order to release the spirits of the real Anacondrai Generals. The spirits then banishes Chen and his army to the curse realm and the war is stopped. Skylor, who's no longer an Anacondri, decided to run her fathers noodle business. The episode ends with the ninja burning the spellbook and saying words about Garmadon and the introduction of a new enemy, Morro.
