Landmark is an upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). Currently in closed beta,[1] Landmark is being developed alongside EverQuest Next by Daybreak Game Company (formerly Sony Online Entertainment). The original name of the game was EverQuest Next Landmark, but that switched to simply Landmark in March 2014.[2]

In August 2014, at SOE Live, Landmark announced the addition of combat to the game.[3]

Players can access Landmark by purchasing a Settler's Pack, Explorer Pack or Trailblazer Pack.[4] Once you have purchased your entry package, the game is free to play -- no further cash purchases are required. Each player can stake claims -- two separate claims and up to six attached claims. However, to maintain claimed space, the player must collect copper to pay rent on the land, or use real money to purchase station cash to pay for the claim. At first, the player can pay only one week in advance; but after several days of play, the rent can be paid two weeks in advance, and then twenty days in advance. If the claim rent is not paid, all materials and props that have been placed on a claim are placed in the player's storage, and the claim site reverts to the original game state. Buildings designed for the claim are saved as a template. If no one has claimed the location, the player can reclaim it, and use the saved templates to replace the buildings. If someone has claimed the site, the player will have to select a different location, but all materials, template and props are still available for use.

Landmark does not currently have quests, or even wandering monsters -- although player-characters can be "killed" by falling or drowning. "Death" will return the player-character to the central hub. From there, the player can either choose to create a travel shard or can walk back to the home claim. Currently, the player's primary focus is on collecting materials and building a home or fortress. Traveling through the game landscape reveals an amazing number of creative buildings, sculptures and more. The Landmark developers have enlivened this process by through contests and by seeding the props templates with new and seasonal items that can be placed on claims.

Players can also compete in player vs. player (pvp) combat. Players can participate in games with other players at a central location, or they can set up a game table on their own claim and host games.

The game is still in Closed Beta, and many changes can be expected.
