"Lame Claim to Fame" is a 2014 song by comedy music artist "Weird Al" Yankovic. It is featured on his 2014 album Mandatory Fun. The song is an original composition in the form of pastiche, imitating the style of the band Southern Culture on the Skids.[1]
Composition
"Lame Claim to Fame" examines celebrity-obsessed culture.[2] It features frequent name-drops as the singer brags about having tangential associations with popular people.[3] Rolling Stone observed that the song draws influence from the Southern Culture on the Skids song "Camel Walk".[4] Among the protagonist's miscellaneous disjointed and secondhand connections is a reference to the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon meme.
Music video
The video was released on July 20, 2014.[5] It features stop motion animation by Tim Thompson and multiple appearances of Dr. Demento.
