Lakshmi Manchu

Manchu Lakshmi Prasanna, credited as Lakshmi Manchu, is an Indian film actress, producer[3] and daughter of actor Mohan Babu. She studied in the US and appeared in a couple of American television shows and films and later continued acting in Indian films, mostly in Telugu cinema. She also produces films under the banners Sree Lakshmi Prasanna Pictures and Manchu Entertainment and has hosted talk shows in Telugu television.

Early life

Lakshmi Manchu is the only daughter of actor Mohan Babu and Vidya Devi. She has two younger brothers, Vishnu Manchu and Manoj Manchu. She graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Theater from Oklahoma City University.[4][5]

Career

She acted and became known through her role in the American television series Las Vegas, where she played the role of Sarasvati Kumar, the love interest of James Lesure. The show gave her the chance to work with many stars, such as James Caan and Sylvestor Stallone, to name a few.[6] Besides, Las Vegas, she has acted very minor roles in each one episode in the series Desperate Housewives, Late Nights with my Lover and Mystery ER. She has also appeared in commercials for Toyota, AARP and Chevrolet.[7] She has acted in the upcoming English film Basmati Blues.[8]

In 2006, she directed, produced and acted in Perfect Lives, a short film that was showcased at the Wilshire Fine Arts Theater as part of the La Femme Film Festival in Los Angeles.[9]

In December 2011, she was signed on to portray a role in Mani Ratnam's Tamil film Kadal after a successful audition. Portraying the role of Celina, a poor village woman, she expressed that the film would be her breakthrough in films as an actress and revealed that the popular song "Nenjukulle" from the film was shot with her for two weeks.[10] The film released in February 2013 and much to Lakshmi's shock, her portions were largely edited out of the film and the scope of her role was diminished. The song did not feature in the film either, with Lakshmi apologising to her fan following for the episode.[11][12]

Personal life

Manchu became the mother of a baby girl through surrogacy in June 2014. The baby was born at Akansha Infertility Clinic at 12:30 pm on 15 June 2014.[1][2]
