Lakenheath railway station serves the village of Lakenheath in Suffolk, England.
The station lies some three miles north of the village of Lakenheath, and is not within convenient walking distance of any sizable population. However, there is a population of over 10,000 people (Lakenheath village, Feltwell and Hockwold cum Wilton) within a 5-mile radius of the station.
Services at Lakenheath comprise one train in each direction on Saturdays and three trains in each direction on Sundays. There are no services on Mondays to Fridays. All services stop only on request and are provided by Abellio Greater Anglia railways, using Class 170 DMUs. On Saturdays, there is the 10:25 to Cambridge and the 15:40 to Norwich. On Sundays, there are the 10:00, 12:00, and 16:00 services to Cambridge and the 11:15, 13:14, and the 16:06 services to Norwich. East Midlands Trains services pass through the station but do not stop. Although the next station on the Line is Shippea Hill, there are no direct services between the two stations.
Lakenheath is one of the least used stations in the United Kingdom, according to the Strategic Rail Authority figures of 2003.
Lakenheath Station has seen somewhat of a boom in passenger numbers for the period 2007-2008. A fivefold increase in passengers using the station can be attributed to the number of services calling at the station on a Sunday to service the local RSPB nature reserve at Lakenheath Fen.
RSPB Lakenheath Fen is immediately adjacent to the station.
