Lake Gilead is in the lower Hudson River basin. It is located in Carmel Hamlet, New York in Putnam County. It has a surface area of 116 acres (0.47 km2) and a mean depth of 43 feet (13 m). It is about 120 feet (37 m) deep at its greatest depth.

Lake Gilead is part of the New York City water system as a controlled lake.

Ice fishing is allowed on Lake Gilead during the winter. Fish species present include (but are not limited too) largemouth bass, rainbow trout, lake trout, chain pickerel, brown trout, yellow perch, and panfish. Also a local fisherman illegally, in the 1990s introduced northern pike, though they are rarely caught.
