The Lady Cilento Children's Hospital (known as the Queensland Children's Hospital during early stages of the project) is a new major children’s hospital in South Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The hospital was officially opened on 29 November 2014.
The hospital combined the Royal Children's Hospital, Herston and the Mater Children's Hospital together into one new facility located next to the former Mater Children’s Hospital site in South Brisbane, at an estimated construction cost of A$1.2 billion.
The main building consists of 12 levels, with 359 beds, 71 more than the combined total of the Mater and Royal Children's hospitals, 75,000 square metres of floor space, and an additional four levels of underground carpark. The new facility represents the largest capital investment in children's health services in Queensland state's history.
The Queensland Government appointed Abigroup the managing contractor for the project which is designed by architects Conrad Gargett Riddel and Lyons in a joint venture.[1][2]
On 15 December 2013, the Queensland Premier Campbell Newman announced that the hospital would be named after the renowned Queensland clinican, Lady Phyllis Cilento.[3]
