L V Muralikrishna Reddy

Dr. L V Muralikrishna Reddy, FIE, Int. PE, CEng (UK) (born 23 June 1967) is the youngest President of India's oldest professional body of engineers, The Institution of Engineers (India) and has assumed office at the Annual General Meeting held at Hyderabad on 21 December 2014. He is a technologist and researcher with focus on promoting interdisciplinary research to deliver solutions, services, and products for societal needs.His professional experience spans over 24 years. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, a Master’s degree in Energy Systems, and a Ph.D in Energy Conservation and Management. His areas of expertise and current interests include Chemical Engineering, Engineering Education and Accreditation, Energy Systems, Collaborative Research, Institution Building, Micro Air Vehicles, Skill Development, Sustainability Platforms, and Technologies for Societal Needs.

He has been associated with IEI-KSC, as Secretary and Chairman for Karnataka State Centre;[1] and has served in several Committees of IEI. His significant contribution includes articulating, proposing, and implementing transformation of IEI’s flagship activities: Education, Examination, Accreditation and AMIE programs; Promoting Networking and Collaboration through multiple editions of the flagship Indian Engineering Congress / Conventions / Seminars / Events; Scaling-up Membership Growth; and Strengthening the effectiveness of IEI Platforms by enlisting wider participation by Members and Institutions.

Murali had served as the Director of NDRF, a Research Promotion Organisation.[2] Under his leadership, NDRF has built a high-performance collaborative R&D ecosystem with its Consortium partners to develop indigenous capabilities in Micro Air Vehicles, Rapid Prototyping, and Chemical and Bio-Sensor Systems. He has published International/National Papers and Reports, edited 6 Monographs on critical areas of engineering, and has 9 international patent disclosures.

He is a recipient of fellowships from The Institution of Engineers (India), The Institution of Engineering and Technology (UK). He was conferred the Distinguished Alumnus Award by the Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal. He holds multiple leadership positions at national and regional levels of professional bodies and associations, including Member-Executive Board of MICAVs (funded by the Aeronautical Research and Development Board, Department of Defence Research and the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India), amongst others. He serves as the Vice President of the Indian Institution of Production Engineers (IIPE).[3] He has promoted networking in the technological community by establishing synergy with other professional bodies to strengthen the cause of Indian engineering. One of the recent initiatives is the signing of an MoU between IEI and the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) to promote accreditation activities for technical education, R&D in technical education, development of monographs, development of curriculum and delivery of training programmes for engineers and engineering teachers, amongst others.[4]

Addressing the Twenty-second Annual Convocation of The Institution of Engineers (India) at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh on 16 November 2014, to award certificates to Senior Technician / Technician and Corporate Members who passed Sections A & B and Post Graduate Diploma Examinations at the Summer 2013 and Winter 2013 Examinations, the President-Elect, Dr. L V Muralikrishna Reddy exhorted the students to not be content with just receiving the degrees, but should strive to participate and contribute to the progress of the country.

Addressing the Twenty-eighth National Convention for Aerospace Engineers at Bangalore on 14 November 2014, Dr. L V Muralikrishna Reddy supported the view of the Chief Guest, Dr. U R Rao, Chairman, Governing Council, Physical Research Laboratory and Former Chairman ISRO, and the Guest of Honour, Dr. K Tamilmani, Director General (Aeronautics), DRDO that it is essential for India to develop indigenous technologies to make India self-reliant in space technologies, and that automation in manufacturing is needed to boost the production of aircraft in the country. Unveiling the plaque of NDRF’s ‘Innovation Centre for Composites’ during the inaugural session, Dr. Muralikrishna Reddy commended the Industry Partners for coming forward to establish the state-of-the-art Innovation Centre for Composites (ICC). "ICC will be a National Facility to facilitate stakeholders and researchers demonstrate thought-leadership in the areas of Composites and play a role in Transforming Engineering", Dr. Reddy added.[5]
