The 145th Natural Science Lyceum, officially known as Kiev natural-scientific lyceum No. 145 (Ukrainian: Київський природничо-науковий ліцей № 145), is a secondary educational institution Pechersk Raion of Kiev. Specialized disciplines include: physics, mathematics, computer science, and chemistry.

History

In 1962, at the initiative of the University of Kiev and the City Council, the school was opened as physico-mathematical school № 145. The school was considered an elite institution, in particular, for the teaching of foreign language teachers that were invited from abroad. It has produced over 3,000 graduates, 80% of whom subsequently received advanced degrees. The school curriculum is based on that of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and is one of the first such institutions in the country that has received the status of the Lyceum. In the early 1990s a large number of teachers of the Lyceum went abroad, but later flight training was discontinued [1]

Education

Education in high school is from the eighth to eleventh grades. Students' abilities are developed in 89 classes, followed by a thorough study of exact and natural sciences, as well as computer science. Students also receive a pre-university training. Programs in mathematics and physics were developed for the Lyceum on special order with the faculty of the Kiev National University. There is also the Junior Academy of Science Section, which coordinates the research activities of students. For research students are admitted to the Lyceum in the laboratory research institutes of the NASU. In high school providing a foundation for the training of participants and thematic subject Olympiads and contests nationwide and the international level. Highly developed structures of extracurricular education are taught in 35 courses and eight electives.

Teaching staff

The director of the Lyceum - Mykola Levtyk, Honored Worker of Education. The teaching staff includes three distinguished teachers of Ukraine, 6 teachers, supervisors, 16 senior teachers, 40 teachers of the highest category, 8 teachers Soros Fellows, six candidates for physics and mathematics sciences, Physics and 2 doctors of sciences. Lectures and courses in high school are taught by professors of universities and research staff of NASU.

Students

During the 1992-2014 year of lycée pupils were:

• 183 winners of international Olympiads in physics, mathematics, chemistry, computer science

• 92 winners of the international scientific-practical conferences on physics, chemistry, geography

• 505 winner of All-Ukrainian Olympiads in physics, mathematics, computer science, chemistry, biology, geography

• 17 winners and 25 winners of competition of the Soros Foundation (1994-2000)

Kiev Natural Science High School is regularly ranked among the leading educational institutions of the results of national testing. In 2009, the High School took second place in Kiev in mathematics,[2] in 2010 - the first,[3] and in 2011 the total third place in the test in all subjects.
