Kwai Tsing District Council is the district council for the Kwai Tsing District in Hong Kong. It is one of 18 district council. Sha Tin District currently consists of 35 members, of which the district is divided into 29 constituencies, electing a total of 29 with 1 ex-officio member who is the Tsing Yi rural committee chairman and 5 members appointed by the Chief Executive. The latest election was held in 2011.
It was originally part of the Tsuen Wan District Council until in 1985 the it was separated into Kwai Chung and Tsing Yi District Council due to the expansion of population. It was renamed into today's Kwai Tsing District Council in 1988.
Kwai Tsing District Council has been a stronghold of the Pro-democracy camp since the 1980s. The Democrats had controlled the council and served as chairmen including Lee Wing-tat and Sin Chung-kai until in the 2007 election the pro-Beijing camp gained majority of the council with the help of the appointment system carried out again since 1999, which the pro-government councillors are appointed by the Chief Executive.
