Kurt Thomas Travis (born January 16, 1984) is an American singer, musician, and songwriter best known as the former vocalist of the band Dance Gavin Dance and current vocalist for the band A Lot Like Birds. Shortly following A Lot Like Birds's release, Conversation Piece in October 2011,[2] Travis also released a solo EP entitled Wha Happen? released by Doghouse Records in January 2012.,[3] on which he wrote and performed all of the material. He did so in the comfort of his parents home using only his laptop computer, a baby grand piano, and a drum played by his friend. You can also hear his parents' dogs barking in the background during the intro to "Time to Make A Plan;Not Getting Younger "[4] In March 2013 Travis released a much darker expression with Mt Utumno through Equal Vision Records. Kurt married Lauren Johnson-Travis September 14, 2013, who accompanied him on bass for his most recent tour. His first full length album and first solo headlining tour, featuring Hotel Books and So Much Light. Entitled [Everything is Beautiful] which he wrote with the help of Zachary Garren ex-DGD and released through Blue Swan Records (Will Swan of DGD)

Musical career

2003-05: Five Minute Ride

In 2003 Travis released "Bathroom walls...Lipstick Secrets, followed by The World Needs Convincing of All That It's Missing on Rise Records.

2007–10: Dance Gavin Dance

In late 2007, Kurt Travis replaced Jonny Craig as the singer for the American post-hardcore band Dance Gavin Dance.[5] The band released two albums with the singer: one self-titled (also known as the "Death Star" album), releasing a music video for "Me and Zoloft get along just fine" and another titled Happiness. Releasing a video for this album as well for "Tree Village"

On August 18, 2010, music news website Alternative Press announced Kurt's departure from Dance Gavin Dance via a press release from the band. He was replaced by the band's former vocalist Jonny Craig. The split was amicable, with Dance Gavin Dance officially stating "[they] and Kurt remain friends, and they wish Kurt the best in all of his future endeavors".[6]


2011–present: A Lot Like Birds

On January 9, 2011 A Lot Like Birds announced Kurt Travis would be joining as a second vocalist.[7] Since joining the band, they have released two albums, Conversation Piece and "No Place" and embarked on a nationwide tour with Just Like Vinyl and Dance Gavin Dance. Due to Jonny Craig's inability to tour at this time, Kurt also sang for Dance Gavin Dance, sharing duties with Lower Definition singer Matt Geise.

Their new album, No Place, was released on October 29, 2013.
