Kurt Deutsch

Kurt Deutsch is an actor, director, and record producer. He was born on July 26, 1966 in St. Louis, Missouri.

Biography

Deutsch was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He attended Syracuse University and the National Theatre Institute at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre Center. He resides in New York City with his wife, actress Sherie Rene Scott and their son Elijah.

Sh-K-Boom/Ghostlight Records

In 2000, Deutsch and Scott founded Sh-K-Boom Records. They named the company after themselves (Sherie and Kurt). The label's first two releases were Scott's debut album, "...Men I've Had," and the debut of her former Rent and Aida co-star Adam Pascal. Sh-K-Boom also participated in the marketing of the debut album of another Rent and co-star, Anthony Rapp. In 2004, a new musical theater subsidiary of Sh-K-Boom, Ghostlight Records, was created. The company has over 60 albums in its catalog.

Awards and honors

As producer, Deutsch received a 2009 Grammy for Best Musical Show Album for The Original Broadway Cast Album In The Heights along with fellow producers Alex Lacamoire, Andrés Levin, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Joel Moss & Bill Sherman.^[1] Additionally, Deutsch as producer, with Joel Moss, was honored with 2006 Grammy Award nominations in the "Musical Show" category for two Ghostlight albums, the Actors' Fund Benefit Recording of Hair and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. A third Ghostlight album, the Dirty Rotten Scoundrels cast recording, was nominated in the same category.^[1]

Sh-K-Boom and Ghostlight were awarded a special 2006 Drama Desk Award for dedication to the preservation of musical theatre through original cast albums.^[2]

Acting

As an actor Deutsch appeared on Broadway in Broadway Bound, A Few Good Men, he appeared off broadway and in regional theatres around the country. He was a series regular on the television series The Human Factor and Winnetka Road, and he guest starred on Sex and the City, Law & Order, Quantum Leap, Matlock, and Models Inc. His film roles included The Eye of the Storm, The First To Go and Labor Pains .
