Kudret Özersay (born 16 December 1973) is a Turkish Cypriot academic, diplomat and politician. Özersay is running for President of Northern Cyprus in April's elections. Until October 2014, he was the chief Turkish Cypriot negotiator for the settlement of the Cyprus dispute. After his announcement of his candidacy, President Derviş Eroğlu removed him from his post.[1] Özersay had been involved in the negotiations since 2003.[2]

Education

Özersay studied international relations at Ankara University. His 2002 PhD thesis was on the "Validity of the 1959–1960 Cyprus Treaties In International Law".[3]
