Krn[2] (2244 m) is a mountain of the southwestern Julian Alps in Slovenia. The mountain is located about 50km from the Adriatic Sea. It is surrounded the by river Soča and the smaller rivers Lepenjica and Tolminka. Krn has a mighty western wall, which is best viewed from Kobarid or Drežnica.
On the southern side of the mountain lie the small villages of Vrsno, Krn, Drežnica, Drežniške Ravne and Magozd.
On the northern side lies the beautiful Lake Krn, which is the biggest of its kind in Slovenia.
During the First World War there was a lot of fierce fighting in the area. The top of the neighbouring mountain Batognica (2164 m) was blown off because of an accidental weapon depot explosion. A lot of remnants from the war remain scattered around the peak.
