Krishnapatnam or Kistnapatam is a port town in Muthukur mandal of Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh, India.
Demographics
As of 2011 Census of India, the town had a population of 5,686. The total population constitute, 2,815 males, 2,871 females and 732 children, in the age group of 0–6 years. The average literacy rate stands at 65.22% with 3,231 literates, significantly lower than the national average of 73.00%.[3]
Transportation
Seaport
Krishnapatnam Port is a major port situated at a distance of 24 km from Nellore city. Krishnapatnam is one of the very few ports in the world which can handle giant ships with load capacities of 1,50,000 tonnes. It has become one of the deepest port of India with 18 meters of draft.
Roadways
Krishnapatnam Port is connected to the National Highway-5 through a state highway. The authorities have also constructed a dedicated 25 km road to NH-5 and a railway line connecting the Chennai-Howrah broad gauge line near Venkatachalam.
Power projects
A 4000 MW UMPP with investment of Rs17,500 Crores is being constructed. Besides this UMPP, APGENCO set up a 1600 MW power station named as Sri Damodaram Sanjeevaiah Thermal Power Station at Krishnapatnam.
Smart City
Krishnapatnam is chosen to be built into a smart city as part of the PM Narendra Modi's 100 Smart Cities initiative.
