Biography

Karakachanov was a candidate to become President of Bulgaria in the 2011 elections, winning 0.99% of all votes cast in the first round, finishing in 10th place.[2] Karakachanov took part in the 2014 European elections as part of a coalition bloc with the Bulgaria without Censorship political party.[3] In late July 2014, Karakachanov's IMRO left the coalition to form a Patriotic Front electoral alliance together with Valeri Simeonov's National Front for the Salvation of Bulgaria.[4] Alongside Simeonov, he is the co-spokesman for the electoral bloc.

During the communist era (before 1989), Karakachanov was an informer of the Committee for State Security.[5][6]
